When Will the Flooding Stop?

Oh my gosh! When will it all end? All of this freaking rain with almost every river in flood stage and trash everywhere. When will it be okay to fish? I'm going to go crazy over the next couple of days because the weather is going to be BEAUTIFUL and the rivers will be flowing high. So much for going to the Farmington on Good Friday...:bang::rant::down:

Farmington MIGHT be OK by Friday. still have 2 days to help get things back in order. I have never fished the Farmington, however almost ALL rivers here in MASS I fish, fish AWESOME in "high" water.

Time will tell buddy! BUT COUNT YOUR PRAYERS! THEY HAVEN"T EVEN BEGUN STOCKING HERE IN MASS YET!!! Consider yourself LUCKY!

Just throw big heavy black streamers against the banks and brush. Use a bigger rod and hang on tight, this is not the time for 4 and 5 x tippet.

I'd imagine that the smaller streams will be okay. I'm going to the Berkshires over Easter, so maybe a small brook will be fish friendly. The outstanding thing is that the Farmington is flowing at 2,700 cubic feet per second! I'm gonna clean up my tackle, tie some flies, read, and wait for that water to come down. But it better come down quick, or else... Hey Simms, you said that Mass streams fish "AWESOME" in high water. Where do you go to fish in these conditions? The Stillwater or Westfield?

According to the USGS site for CT River Conditions:
USGS Real-Time Data for Connecticut_ Streamflow , the west branch of the farmington in Riverton which is the TMA is actually below normal for flow which idk how this could be so should be fine for fishing and I know for a fact they just heavily stocked it might head out and give it a try tommorow or friday give it a shot and go!

Brook,

If your in the state once stocking gets underway, would love to show you around!

Particularly, the Qunnie, Still, Millers, and E.B. of the Swift fish good high. However, that is COMPLETE personal opinion! :)

Been fishing the Swift and Quinnie with success. Of course, all hold over fish.

We got a boatload of rain down my too but every smaller trout stream I passed yesterday to and from work was in prime condition. You just have to alter your plans and expectations a bit but there are plenty of fishable streams available for this weekend.

Yeah, I'm around on Friday and Saturday, and I'll be in Western Mass on Sunday, so if you guys say it's good, then I'll go. It would actually be great to go out, so I'll give it a try. What river has been the best lately? Also, when does stocking get underway? I know that there is going to be beautiful whether, and in places like the stillwater and the east branch of the swift, the salmon run is going to be fantastic. I don't to drive too far into Mass because I live in Rhode Island, so any opportunity I get I jump at it.

No Salmon till fall.

Stocking most likely will commence next week. When it happens well meet up and catch some PIGS! Im game to go fishin anyday. However I dont have school thurs/fri. LEt me know!

Simms, I was planning to go out tomorrow, but I don't know where. I was thinking eastern ct or somewhere like the swift. I just got some brand new neoprene waders in the mail so I can't wait to test them out. The whether is going to be GREAT. I just love fly fishing!

Swift is currently blown out. Unfishable. As are almost ALL rivers in MASS right now. Sat or sunday will be the better days, sunday being the best...Either they are letting water out of the Quabbin or the reservoir is just that high, either way, need a float plane to fish.

Hit some of the SMALL streams instead. Such as the prince or burnshirt. Natives.

Question: Where are those streams? I've never heard of either one, so some info/directions would be greatly thanked for. Unfortunately, I can't go on Saturday or Sunday, so it's tomorrow or nothing for me. Another question, do you think eastern ct waters like the natchaug, willimantic, or moosup will be okay to fish?
