Wading Jackets?

SlickFlyFisher

FlatBrook Forever!!
Hey fellas,

I'm in the market to get a new wading jacket. I'd love to hear what ones you
wear and whatever you have to say about them. In the past, I've avoided
wearing jackets while wading (haven't done much winter fishing, obviously ;))
but I'm hitting the rivers hard this year. Also, do you wear specific weight
jackets for the time of year? I like to do alot of hiking into my fishing spots,
so packability and/or breathability are very important. I'm all ears, boys.

Tight Lines,

Slick,

I use Patagonia's Queets River jacket. It is a middle of the road pricepoint wise, but I am very pleased with it. The fit is great. The only complaint that I would have is that a mesh liner would be nice. I would recomend looking for a good fit obove anything extra.

Try it on

if you can fit into a size small, patagonia's deep wading jacket is on sale for $80(marked down from $200). great deal on what looks like a nice, lightweight and packable jacket. Something that I am also in the market for.

Wish I could fit into that :crap:

If you need something bigger, I've had my eye on the Clearwater Packable jacket from Orvis for a while. I looked at it in the store, looks very nice and pretty reasonably priced.

I bought this one about a month ago.
Emerger Wading Jacket, Men'sfrom L.L.Bean

Looks good, feels right for $80, but didn't have a chance to test it, the weather was not bad enough.

I have a Simms in vest rain jacket that I like but I just got a nice lightweight waterproof, windproof jacket form Eddie Bauer in Chester. I found myself wearing it more then my Simms.
I always found that "wading jackets" are just lightweight rain jackets with a difrent name and larger price tag.

Here is the link to the one I got, I went with black and I got a fleece vest to go with it. Eddie Bauer: 365 All-Climate System

I've used an LL Bean PacLite wading jacket for over ten years. It's made from Gortex and has never failed me in bad weather. It is light enough to pack into the back of your vest or pack. I keep it there at all times. Since it is lightweight, it can be used in a summer storm in warm weather, or as a shell to keep out the wind and rain in colder weather with warmer layers underneath. It's kept me warm and dry on many trips to many places.

On the way back from a trip to Maine, I bought another one from the LL Bean outlet. My first one is still going, but I like it so much I bought a new one to replace the one I have when/if it ever wears out. It sells for $149. Here is a link to LL Bean. Good luck.
