Waders

Hey Guys,

I'm looking for waders in the price range of 100-150 and boots in the 75-100 range. Is there anything good in that price range ? right now I've been fishing for bass in a bathing suit and a pair of crocs. I don't think that is going to work out in the fall and winter :).

Thanks,

Stefan

I haven't bought into the name brand things yet (still new so who knows what will happen down the road). Yea, I know, too look good is to fish good... well, I make everything look good.

I bought a wader and boot combo from Cabelas for about $150-$200(i'll get crucified on here for admitting that) but I figured I'd tell you that you don't NEED to go top of the line. Sure they will have some great benefits and return policies, but as you're new like me, you don't know what you like in waders, boots and even rods and vests/packs for that matter. So until I settle in and decide what I like in waders, I'm fine with my modestly price waders that keep me dry.

If you plan to fish in the late fall/winter, I'd personally recommend going a half a size up in boots so that those wool socks will fit.

breathables with stocking foot and boots with felt and studs (be careful about the whole felt thing - you can't wear them in all streams - do some research " didymo") were really my only search criteria. Don't know if I lucked out or if I haven't been spoiled by really nice waders and boots yet, but I'm very happy with my choice. (they've held up through 2 years of 4 seasons plus some heavy bushwacking so I cant complain.)

One more thing, get a wading belt (some come with them). It'll keep you more dry not if, but when you go for an accidental swim.

Oh and the stupid little zippered pocket in the front of your waders makes a nice dip can holder.

Thank you for the suggestions. I'm not looking for anything pretty as long as they work and keep me dry and are reasonably priced I'm fine with it. :)

Well i will second snoozekid suggestion on going with LL Bean. They make a good product for a good price.

There's nothing special about a "wading belt" except the higher price.
All you're trying to do is slow down how fast your waders fill with water if you have a spill, or go too deep. A piece of clothesline will do the job in a pinch.

If economy is a consideration.
If you have an old belt that's a little too big for street clothes, or can be adjusted to fit over waders, you can use it.
Or get a cheap belt like they sell in supermarkets, K-mart, and the like.

Excellent idea. Dress like Pete said, stand in the parking lot of a fly shop with a tin cup, and in no time you will have enough money to buy a decent pair of waders.

It's a belt, not a rod. There's no possible reason to buy something you already own, or can be purchased for less.

A lot of them look suspiciously like my old Army uniform belt from the '60s.

My goodness man have you no standard of decency? Whats next, promoting fishing without a guide? This is a slippery slope your on, a slippery slope indeed.

First we get Walmart as a suggestion...
then clothesline...
now it's a coupon?

Next thing we'll hear is slipping on heavy duty/contractor grade garbage bags over your clothes up to your crotch, tying them up over your shoulders and putting on oversized rubber farm boots. (yeah, I saw that done up at the Salmon River... don't ask...)(Personally, duct tape woulda made a big difference in the success of that endeavor...)

No self respecting Fly Fisherman would lower themselves to ANY of that...

No wonder this site is circling the drain...

Yeah, really sucks when people help people. let's all stop this advice shit and keep the sport pure for elitist miscreants.

relax Fluid. If you cant take sarcastic humor on this site you will have a rough time of it. Future Fanitic had an Alpaca accident were by he was kicked in the head. Because of it we all give him "special" consideration when he posts.

the least you could do is to upgrade the clothes line to a multi tasking bungee cord wading belt
