Lookin to get my first pair of decent waders, I have always bought cheep waders that dont last. I dont want to spend a ton of money or get crap waders. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

90% of the people on this site will disagree, but I bought Orvis silver labels last year, I have beaten' the ever lovin' poop out of them...Slid over logs, walked through briar patches, wrestled a bear in Montana(not really), spilled enviro 215( or whatever that stuff Danme was pushin') on them, and no leaks yet..They are comfortable, and STYLISH....I paid a little under $200.00...ONE PROBLEM...THEY ARE MADE BY THE ENEMY!!!:)

Cabels are the best bang for your buck. I have had a pair that I abuse and they are up to the challenge.
 
Cabela's house brand really are good waders. I would stay away from their bottom of the line offerings, but I have never had problems with their higher-end waders. You get a lot for the money anf they will also replace waders free if you have problems when the waders are still young.

Thanks for the help, and im looking to spend around $200 to $250. What do you guys think about ll bean waders? I like them because they have a life time warranty
 
My two cents,

scrimp and save and buy American! you cant go wrong with the high end offerings from Simms, or Dan Bailey. Simms G-3's are a great choice they ware like Iron. Mine are three seasons old and are still going strong, and I dont baby them. I would rather cheap out on rods & reels than waders.
 
I used to work for Simms. The freestones are made with shittier epoxy than cabelas. Calbelas midrange are the way to go for that price range. The freestones are not even made in house. Another brand to look at is patagonia. They made a good pair of waders that are backed up by great customer service over there. My buddy rips his pair from time to time and they are back within 2 weeks fixed for almost no money. I have a pair of g3 waders that I really like. the design is really good for bush wacking and not too heavy like the g4s.
 
to be honest with you simms are great, but i love frogg toggs waders they are awesome i have had mine for three yrs and no problems the first pair i ever got leaked i send em back and 3 days later new pair arrived. the best part their top end are only 185.
 
Bean make nice waders and have the warranty. People complained about the original Helix waders and their shoulder strap configuration when it was time to take a leak with layers on & it doesn't look like they have changed it up much.

I have had bad luck with Orvis waders, but it's been 3 years since I have worn a pair and they have an entire new line 2 times over, but I am not willing to take the gamble. The new silver seams look interesting, I have the Redington sonic seams (they purchased the technology from Orvis) and have had zero problems with them.

You have a ton of options in your price range, for what it's worth, I would purchase the Simms Headwaters on sale for $209 at CLEARANCE & SPECIALS - Product Catalog if they have your size. They are Gore-Tex as well.

Another waders to check out is on Sierra. Simms has a few artic muck bootfoot waders on clearance for $160 if you use an online coupon code. Your feet will never get cold if you winter fish. Sizes are limited. http://www.sierratradingpost.com/s~muckboot/ These waders use their quadralam, which has worked well for me on my Simms Exstream winter waders (no longer made). Buy the felt if you can, and put a set of Simms Hard-bite studs for felt in them. The lug soles will require you buy a set of korker strap-ons for winter fishing.

In terms of boots, you are asking to take a swim if you wade in sneakers, especially when the water temps cool. I have a narrow foot making me a Korkers fan, love the interchangeable soles. I alternate between the studded felt and carbide changeable stud soles. Even though Korkers claim to be size right for your street show, you still need to go up one size.
 
Korkers all the way awesome traction on slippery rocks. The streamborn can be picked up for $99 I believe and if you want top of the line they are I think $225 complete with a couple pairs of replacement soles ..
 
I have the korkers redside in the manly size 15, they are great.. I paid about 100 bucks at Tight Lines.....And lynch's new avatar is cool....
 
i agree with macfly...i have the sonics with the zipper..i have pounded them really hard now for 2 seasons..no issues..the way they are cut also makes them more like a pant fit than any others ive had before..that zipper front is so convenient i dont think i could ever buy another pair of waders without it..
