Beautiful tie, Matt. When you guys create these, how many times do you go through the steps before they come out so perfect, or are you just that good that there's no need for another take. :)

Also, just wondering... Why no dubbing toward the front of the fly?

At first when I saw this post I thought I must have taken too many pain meds a few weeks back and woke up next May....

A great fly. My favorite Catskill dry fly combined when fishing it at Horsebrook Run at the top of Cairn's Pool the 2nd week in May and awaiting those slashing rises from nice sized browns while fighting the currents.

Agreed... Love fishing this type of fly in the riffles along side boulders. This is where you'll get the best action and some of the biggest fish.

Great TYE, Matt.

CL,

Thanks, I tied 2 flies from start to finish for this video.

There is no dubbing at the head of a traditional Catskill dry. If you want to know more about the Catskill style fly, check out Mike Valla's book, Tying Catskill Style Dry Flies.

I just watched the video....Matt, your ability to tie "cleanly" is disgusting.....I mean, the gap you left on the shank between the tail and the wing , and to dub it so cleanly and effortlessly is a kick in the ass to any mediocre fly tyer,....and the thread tension displayed on the figure eight wraps is uncanny, but I guess "practise" makes perfect......

Now .....back to the vise.., or should I just toss it in the garbage? AND!!!!........there has to be a trick to tying off hackle without getting fibers caught......is it the Alpaca fur?:):):)
