Trico pattern recipe

JasonM

Trout Hunter
Does anyone have a trico pattern recipe that they would like to share? I plan on fishing some spring creeks this weekend.

Hook: Straight eye size 22-28
Thread: Clear Nylon 8/0
Tail: Dun Microfibbet -- length is two-three times size of hook shank.
Body: Clear Nylon thread, slim, but allows color of hook to minimal.
Wing: Spent Clear Antron, sized as 1 1/2 to twice size of shank.
Thorax: Compact and small dark thorax figured 8 around wing.

FYI, you may want to consider tying up a double Trico pattern as well (Imagine two tricos laying on top of each other as a cluster):

Hook: Straight eye size 18-20
Thread: Clear Nylon 8/0
Tail: Dun Microfibbet -- length is two-three times size of hook shank.
Body: Clear Nylon thread, slim, but allows color of hook to minimal.
Wing: Spent Clear Antron, sized as 1 1/2 to twice size of shank.
Thorax: Compact and small dark thorax figured 8 around wing.
Second Wing closer to eye.
Wing: Spent Clear Antron, sized as 1 1/2 to twice size of shank.
Thorax: Compact and small dark thorax figured 8 around wing. Tie off.

Suggestion: Use the best quality midge hook you can purchase and the wing should be sparse, but heavy enough to provide support in the surface film. Additionally, you may want to consider trimming the wing IF you get refusals or going down a size if refusals occur. Also consider switching up as well and fishing small ants, beetles.

Other Suggestions: Consider fishing a size 22 - 24 pheasant tail during an emergence as a nymph imitation.

Dun pattern that works well for me on Missouri: Size 18-24 dark gray slim bodied Parachute Adams. Consider using High Viz for wing.
