Welcome back to the new NEFF. Take a break from Twitter and Facebook. You don't go to Dicks for your fly fishing gear, you go to your local fly fishing store. Enjoy!

To say Hello

Soft-hackle

Wet fly fisherman.
Hi,
I'm new to this forum, but feel very at home here since I live in NY State. Some of you that are signed up in other forums might recognize me as I'm communicating in several different forums. I guess, however it's a way to get to know a lot of other fly fishermen. I am a freelance artist currently working out of my home studio. I do graphics and computer work, but also do fine art in all media, but specialize in watercolors and pen and ink drawing. If you check-out my personal page, you'll see some of my work. I look forward to getting to know you all.

Welcome Aboard Soft-Hackle - Beautiful work on your personal page!!

Soft Hackle,

Welcome aboard. Wellsville huh? I went to Alfred U. so I spent some time out that way. I never fished on your favorite stream when I was out there though. I saw you were an artist so I wondered if you had any ties to AU.

Alfred U

Hi Beamoc,
Unfortunately, no, I don't have any ties to the campus, but I do know a few of the professors there. Many are in my local TU Chapter. It's too bad you did not have a chance to fish the Genesee. It's a great trout river. There's a 2.5 mile stretch of No Kill water. The water is stocked yearly but we have a top notch holdover rate. Last year was great year. Plenty of water and cooler summer temperatures. Last year my fishing partners and I took many fish 16-18" with a few well above that. Average size is 10-11"but we have two year olds stocked twice a year in the spring. The feeders also provide good trout fishing for brookies, many of which are stream born. My daughter's boyfriend took a 27" brownie on a #14 Light Cahill. Unfortunately I did not have a camera, but was a witness to the catch. For photos of the Genny go: http://www.libstudio.com/Home River .

Good to meet you,
Mark

My soft-hackles

Thanks HydeLowRider,
I'm partial to the soft hackles. I think they're very versatile, simple and effective. Here's one I really like. It's a Black Gnat.

Welcome

Hi Soft Hackle, (I think I've "seen" you around)

My home waters are a bit north of yours, but Dennis lets me lurk around here :p

SH flies - love 'em - Classic Partridge 'n yellow (or green) often makes my day.

Welcome aboard,
Nice country out there.
SUNY Alfred - I just sold new windows for Burdick and Shultz Halls replacement project at the top of the loop.
Fish the Catt much?

Hi fcch, WB and BJ,
Thanks for the welcome and your comments are appreciated. I have not fished the Catt much. I have 2 friends that fish it quite a bit for steelies. I don't have much experience in the steelhead area and am looking to get more information about it. I suspect I'll be needing some heavier equipment, soon. It's good to meet you all.

That's Aflred U. SUNY is accross the street, although the art school at AU is run by teh state. I used to live in one of those suites when I was a sophmore. Great times, although not much fishing was done.
