If you had bothered to actually go to the meetings it was stated that the primary reason for removal of the dumpsters was because weekenders were too lazy to take their trash with them.

Which begs the question:
1. How did "they", whomever "they" would be {possibly the Delaware Dump Patrol} ascertain it was "THE WEEKENDERS!" who were the culprits?

As a wader (when I'm not guiding that is), I too am opposed to more access on the lower river. You can hate on me for being a wader in another thread.

What would you all say to increasing foot access at several points on the lower river or lower EB? Similar to gamelands - a parking lot where you have to walk in.

I'm guessing this is a wildly unpopular idea for the guides on this board, but here's the case for it:

a) The lower river naturally restricts wading due to its depth - they wouldn't be combat fishing like in barking dog. The lower EB on the other hand has limited wading range due to private property restrictions.

b) Both areas might pull some of the wading traffic from the WB and upper main. Boat traffic is more likely to increase with more boat ramps due to induced demand (i.e., build it and they will come), but I'm not sure that a few of hike-in wading points would increase the number of wading fishermen who frequent the system. It might just thin their ranks in key places.

I know, won't happen. Not even on the table. But curious what people think.

What's with dumping everything on the weekenders, isn't that at least 90% of the flyfisherman. So without the weekenders the guides would be out of work. I would think the local yokels do more damage, ie beer bottles, etc. We all can't own nice lots on the riverbanks.

That major problem isnt trash- its pressure. Put a major ramp/access in and people go there in higher numbers. There used to be a few places you could go and see no one or few people. There are still a few of those left and now people are proposing access points at those locations. Why cant having full blown easy access to 80%(100 miles give or take) of the trout water in the catskills be enough? A muddy ramp in a couple of low pressure spots shouldnt be a big deal. And the NY vs PA ramp argument is a joke- who cares what state you put your boat in as long as you are launching on the section of river you want to float on. Would it be a big difference if the buckingham ramp was on the other side of the river in terms of the fishing experience? The answer is NO. As Joe D eluded to though -you wouldnt have the PA boat commission waiting for u at the ramp so there is that agenda exposed for what it is.

Point being, leave a few places rugged for the fisherman that likes to fish without crowds and risk a skunking. The places that have less access in the catskills are in fact the areas that fish more inconsistently for trout. For some- its the experience and not the amount of trout caught. Those places are dwindling and now I'm dumping canoes in mid-sized streams to find a day of solitude that used to be found launching from buckingham to long eddy no more than 5-10 years ago. Its not about "spreading the crowds out", its about having a stretch of river where there are no crowds, period.A few of those still exist

My bad I should have said second home owners, not all second home owners are fisherman, actually very few are. Its easy for the NPS to see trends, Monday morning dumpsters over flowing with trash never said the locals don't, merely pointing out the trends.

So there is a precedence for my statement, I've seen first hand and have heard this being done from many more concerned residents!

When you live on the river all year round you see many wonderful things most will never have the opportunity to experience and some things I hope no one never experiences!
