Welcome back to the new NEFF. Take a break from Twitter and Facebook. You don't go to Dicks for your fly fishing gear, you go to your local fly fishing store. Enjoy!

Technical Difficulties.

For some odd reason NEFF doesn't work on my home computer only my phone and work computer. So here's what I've been up too. I don't do to much wild trout fishing in in November due to the spawn but that doesn't I mean I don't fish. I have always enjoyed a good day fishing for some stockers. Also for you computer guys out there any reason NEFF wont work on my home computer. Settings??? Blocked IP???

Pequest fish.

Fly fishing the Pequest river.

The other day I had an opportunity to fish and decided to give the wild trout a rest during the spawning season and hit the Pequest river here in New Jersey. During the car ride over I decided to fish the lower end of the TCA ( trout conservation area) mostly due to the fact that the upper end receives very heavy fishing pressure on a daily basis but much to my surprise at 7:15am nobody was there. On a normal day it's not an uncommon sight to see 15 or more anglers fishing a small 1/4 mile stretch of water near the hatchery. So I geared up took a quick picture and fishing I went.

First fish of the day.A nice N.J stocker.

A few fish from the morning.

Looking down stream of the bridge near the hatchery.

This time of the year on the Pequest small midge flies are usually the way to go and today was no different. The famous Al's rat tied on a size 22 dry fly hook tied to the bend of a blood dot was my most productive combo. A few other fish were caught on red zebra midges, Disco midges, and rainbow warriors. All in all it was a great morning to revisit an old friend. I used to fish this stream every weekend all year when I was younger and just getting into fly fishing. The pequest is not known for being a tough river with fussy fish so it's an ideal stream for the beginner. But some days it can also humble the most accomplished fly fisherman or woman. For some odd reason the pequest river gets a lot of grief from "expert" fly fisherman and they really talk down about this river and I could never understand why. There aren't many streams in the north east where one can cast a dry fly to a rising trout 12 months a year. I understand it's a stocked stream and has a very low wild trout population in it but this is surely no reason to talk down to a river or the folks who enjoy fishing it. When I fish the Pequest I have much different expectations than when I fish a wild trout stream.
It's like everything else in life....

It's what you make of it.

Some heritage angling on the Little Lehigh

I'm gonna let the pictures do most of the talking for this post. A buddy and myself spent the morning in the Heritage section catching a nice mix of stocked rainbows and wild browns. Then we hit the open un-regulated water for some wild browns.
Enjoy the pics.

A healthy bow from the Heritage section.

The Blood Dot egg is wild brown approved!!

Pennsylvania stocks some beautiful fish.

A close up of the blood dot. Notice the translucency it has. A good representation of the natural.

Perfect in every way.

A double hook up on a tandem nymph rig.

The fish were eating midge pupa all afternoon and a size 22 black bionic midge was my best producer.
