New Member Saying Hello

Hey new member here. I grew up in NJ learning to fish with my Dad at Flat Brooke. I'm 44 now, living in CT, and have been fly fishing ever since. I fish all over the North East and Florida now and am currently up near the Adirondacks for the month of August for my job.

I'm really loving the Adirondacks as they are totally new to me. Half the fun of being a trout bum is wandering the woods in search of that killer day on the water. Most of the amazing things I've seen and done in my life were the result of me being out in the middle of nowhere with a fly rod in my hand. But those are stories for another day.

When it comes to the Adirondacks, I've fished the AuSable and a few other places up here and have had a great time but now I am getting ready to head to some new areas further north and west to see how the action is. I realize August isn't the best time of year to be fishing for trout but I've got to deal with the cards I've been dealt. So, I'm looking at maps and trying to zero in on my next trip and am totally jazzed about it. Anyway, just wanted to say hello and that you have a great forum here.

welcome to the site im not to familar with up that way but i would almost assume the temps are above 70 degrees so if your going to fish for trout fish to eat because theres a good chance they will die anyway

Welcom tom, the adirondack freestones are going to be low and warm for the most part..

Best fished in the early am depending on water temps. Try to find some spring creeks.

Small tributarys sould also provide lower water temps. Hopefully Simms will chime in, hes the ADK aficionado.

Welcome!

If youre in connnecticut and want to fish in August, get in touch with me!

I float the deerfield and swift all summer long. August is when it starts picking up! GOTTA LOVE TAILWATERS!!!!!

Again, welcome! Hope you brought your flack jacket

Welcome to the board. Have you tried the Saranac yet? Go the CnR area (Silver Lake Road and Rt. 3 intersection) and walk upstream a few hundred yards and start hitting the pocket water there on upstream (the island on up). There is a main parking lot near the intersection and one about 1/4 mile up river, but the access is down a very steep and slick trail, but that trail puts you on the money spot. There is also another pull off about 2 miles up Silver Lake Road, have never fished it. They have had some really cool nights up there, was 34 degrees last week, so hopefully the water temps have dropped into the 60's.

Please don't make this your one and only post for information. Give us some reports, good or bad. This site is lacking them lately and it's filled mostly with useless banter.

Hey thanks for saying hello. I'm expecting low water and so so conditions on my next few outings. Sometimes it's good to see the rivers at their lowest to get a feeling for what the bottom looks like. I'll see how it goes. My last trip to the AuSable a week ago was pretty good. I fished the pool and pocket water near the parking lot by Whiteface mountain. Caught lots of small browns with a couple over 12". I also fished in Wilmington below the damn and only caught two browns. I'm still up here in NY until Sept 8th then I'm heading back to CT so I've got a few more days to get some fishing in.

I havent fished the Saranac yet. There is so much water up here it makes my head spin. I'm looking forward to hitting some new spots. I'll certainly check it out.

I also love to hunt birds over my pointer. I head up to Maine in the fall to fish and hunt. I typically fish the last few days of the season and hunt the first few days of the partridge season. There are also a few rivers that have an extended October season so I can hunt and fish in the same day. :) I'd be happy to provide reports on those trips.

Hey! I resent that! Everything I post is informational and should be taken more seriously than snookie being pregnant. I only post useful information.

Useless banter makes it fun....useless, over the top insults are what clutter things up........Trouser Trout is fun, Beetle is an ass..:)

Welcome to the site..I am here less than a year and find something useful everyday....whether it be about fishing, or people and their humor, or lack there of, life or religion, money or investing, fracking or solar energy, republican or democrat, craft beer or mass produced, New York or New Jersey, Pennsylvania or Maryland, apple brandy or home brewed beer, tying flies or tying leaders, classic flies or classic rods, who's gay this week or who isn't, who has a new car or who has no car(pduane), how to sniff adderal or how to snag a fish with a bead, how to build a rod or how to plant a tree, river restoration or river destruction, rocks to the head or rock and roll, everything imaginable or NOT, is discussed here at NEFF.....so enjoy yourself, and I find it is easier if you do not take yourself, or anyone else very seriously.....even if they are :thumb:

Pit,

Anytime you scallywag! Come on up!

Just got the 3rd seat for the boat as well...Weight capacity is 250 on it though. WIll that be sufficient for your slam pig?

Tom....you should have walked UP!! There is a butt load of water up there that is fishy as shiat!

Thanks I'll certainly check that out next time I'm in there as I like the AuSable. I've got this Tuesday off from work so I am heading out Monday early from work and most likely heading up towards Plattsburgh to check out the Saranac, Chateaugay and maybe St Regis depending on how it all works out. I don't have to be back at work down near Saratoga until Wednesday around 11:00AM so I'm hoping I can cover some ground during that time.

No problem with the useless banter. I can stand around and scratch my ass with the best of them.

OK I'm back sitting at home with my friend Johnny Walker. I had a great trip but the fishing was tough. On Monday evening I got in to the AuSable around 5:30PM. I headed upstream from the Whiteface parking lot to check out the chasm. It was real fishy looking up in there but I didn't see or catch one fish. I nymphed the pool way up below the falls. Then I switched to a streamer and finally a dry to no avail. I sat up there in a light rain and was getting sprayed by the falls and enjoyed the shit out of it but no fish for me.

Tuesday morning I drove up to the West Branch of the St Regis. Real nice drive up through there and fished the Allen Falls bridge and upstream. I caught some small browns, a couple of tiny chubs and then at around noon I caught a smallmouth bass on a blue wing olive up in the slower water. The water level was really low. I was pretty much seeing the bottom everywhere.

I stayed in Lake Placid and had a great night at Lisa G's on Monday and had a great dinner on Tuesday night at Liquid and Solid, a sort of foo-foo joint across from Lisa G's. They had some good beer in there so I drank my fill and passed out back in my room.

The night temps on Tuesday were good and low. I woke up to 44 degrees on Wednesday morning. I've got next Tuesday off again so I'm go to head back up to do it again.
