The fracking disaster

President Obama: We have a supply of natural gas that can last America nearly 100 years. And my administration will take every possible action to safely develop this energy. Experts believe this will support more than 600,000 jobs by the end of the decade. … The development of natural gas will create jobs and power trucks and factories that are cleaner and cheaper, proving that we don’t have to choose between our environment and our economy.

President Obama: Recent innovations have given us the opportunity to tap large reserves – perhaps a century’s worth of reserves, a hundred years worth of reserves -– in the shale under our feet. … The potential for natural gas is enormous. And this is an area where there’s actually been some broad bipartisan agreement.

SUPPORT OBAMA you racist.

President O'Bama:"If you like your healthcare plan, you can keep it"...lies LIES LIES!!! all of it!!!!!

New studies suggest that the environmental damage done by fracking is considerably worse than even the liberals thought.

The guy who was heading up NYs health review of hydraulic fracturing(which was to take a couple of months, but is now into years) has decided to call it quits...

Hmmm...

I guess when you ignore the health and safety of women, you just gotta go...

"The state's Health Department commissioner is resigning at the end of June amid criticism over his drawn-out review of whether New York should move forward with hydraulic fracturing.

The announcement comes on the same day that Republican gubernatorial candidate Rob Astorino called for Shah to resign, citing the ongoing fracking review and a lack of inspections in women’s health facilities."

Looks like Prince Cuomo's out for more studies and more delays. The Prince sits in his ivory tower playing his fiddle while upstate burns.

I must say that I find Obama's strong public backing of fracking humorous as his base hates it intensely. Yet you never hear them criticize their king, and that is where I find the humor.

Well, the tide has seemed to have turned.

Obama is and has been for it...
Now we learn the great Senator Chuck Schumer is for it... as well as a majority of Democrats across the country.

Schumer: "Overall, the Democrats throughout the country have supported fracking. The President has, most of us have, and it's worked quite well."

It's worked QUITE WELL!

Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY): Democrats Support Fracking - YouTube

I'm so happy we republicans and democrats are all for this TOGETHER!
Get on board the bipartisan train!

Hey Prince Cuomo, hint, hint!

Gillibrand also supports oil and gas development.

Oil and gas development, one of the few bright spots in an otherwise failing economy, no thanks to the current administration.

The end of that video is pure gold.

I agree, but I'm a bit stymied as to what all the nervous/coy laughter is about. Is it because the hosts got him to say something he was reluctant to say? Was it the obviousness that he was being political(attaching his wagon NOW to organized labor who is flexing some muscle on the issue)? Was it the underlying truth that the delay by the governor was being cast as silly?

I'm not familiar enough with the hosts of the show OR Senator Schumer to "get" the significance...

But it's STILL surprising to hear that A MAJORITY of democrats in the country are for gas development!

(I think the rest need to listen to what their people want and tow the party line) ;)

Obama, Schumer, Gillibrand...... ?
Are you trying to turn those of us, who are considering both sides of the issue, against it?

And the next Governor of NY could reverse that decision and allow it in that state. My opinions regarding fracking have changed as the years have progressed. While no energy extraction is 100% fool proof, fracking of the Marcellus shale regions just haven't been the environmental disasters we were led to believe. And now the US leads the world in energy extraction because of fracking for both gas and oil and obviously not just in the Marcellus regions.

I still have some long term reservations about the integrity of some of the wells that have been drilled, but fracking just isn't destroying trout streams and poisoning the people like so many wanted us to believe. And the resultant energy production has led to lower prices and a Russian economy on the brink of collapse. I'm just old enough to remember the environmentalists telling us that allowing the building of the Alaska pipeline would bring the end to caribou herds in the area and many other species while completely destroying the fragile tundra habitat in that state. Epic failure on that prediction some 40 years later.

I especially like the reasoning behind this. We don't know the long term impacts and there may be added health concerns we haven't discovered yet. Sound scientific reasoning forcsure:)

Yes everything is just fine. Really when you think about it, what harm can come from injecting 200,000 gallons of chemicals into the ground at each well site.

Thank god NY is going to start doing something, I hope more states follow suit. Even if it means paying more on my trip to fish, at least my son will still have a fish to catch

My views on fracking are in line with what Brian stated. I was in the middle for a long time. My views have since changed to more of ;we need to do it. My views are not based on economics or a fundamental need to exploit resources.

This is the bottom line; for far to long the west has funded trough the buying of fossil fuels individuals, states and ideals of sadists that have in the doctrine that the west needs to be destroyed. At some point this has to be addressed and the west must take a stand.
Example : The export of natural gas to Europe form fracked wells in the US would seriously cut into Putin’s funding for his aggressive behavior. I do not need to comment on the Islamic caliphate that is being funded by captured oil facilities.

It is small minded individuals like Cuomo that do not have to vision or back bone to make the right call. If this I have my head in the sand political mind set continues, at some point in the future the funding that the west is contributing to it own demise is going to pay off for its enemies.
