I ran into Dennis McCarthy aka AK Skim today during the Musky cleanup. He generously donated a Winston 5wt. rod and a Lamson reel to the Rahway River Trout Unlimited Chapter. We will raffle this off in 2010 starting at next years fly fishing show. We would do it sooner but we already have a Orvis Superfine Rod we are raffling off now. We are grateful for Dennis' generosity and speaking on behalf of the Rahway River Trout Unlimited chapter we Thank him.

What's NJ law for establishing residency? Does one need to be a resident when the ticket is purchased or the rod is won?
I've still got an Uncle in Clark who can purchase a couple dozen tickets for me and "win" the rod....

AK told me this story I'm not entirely sure it is true but it sounded real convincing. He told he had a spot he like to frequent and alway's had it all to himself until one day another fisherman showed up!! The guy wasn't very personable and would always arrive about the same time he did and was always in a rush to get down to the stream. So much so he would arrive waders on and rod already strung up so he could beat AK down to the stream . He'd pull in and see AK jump out of his car grab his rod and make the mad dash through the woods down to the water. So after going through this several times Ak arrived at the spot and waited sure enough the guy arrives about the same time and heads down . Ak starts his car and just drives away. The guy puzzled walks quietly down to the stream fishs and then leaves. Ak waited patiently until he was gone then got out of his car and walked down through the woods with a spool of 30lb test mono and began to tie the line from tree to tree where the guy makes his way down the to the stream. When he was done he went home proud of what he had just done and came back the next day a little early! And sure enough here comes the guy flying down the road. AK was slowly getting his gear together and as the guy exited his car AK gave a friendly hello the guy just glanced at him saying nothing back and took off in a rush to get to the water . AK waited calmly for the oncoming event as the guy ran down through the woods becoming entangled in the mono he had strung up the night before. A smile came to his face as he heard the man shouting explicatives as he ran into fishing line becoming entangled falling and breaking his fly rod. Ak grabbed his rod and headed down to the stream to fish as he was heading down the other guy was going out pissed as hell broken rod in hand and warned AK about the fishing line some A$$hole had strung from tree to tree!! To Funny!!

See it finally comes out. See BHC I was right AK pushed me. You thought it was a shoe issue or drunk again. So Again I was right as usual. Now if we could only explain how we keeps losing our beer in the fridge.

Before we all extoll AK as being some great humanitarium for donating a rod, I would like to call for an immediate cease and desist to the planned auction until I've had a chance to inspect the rod. I was out with AK a few weeks back and now I am missing a Winston rod. I suspect that he slipped me something in one of those mexican beers he bought me and made off with my rod. I only hope I won't need therapy for whatever other atrocities he may have committed on me during my blackout period.
Glad to hear that the auction isn't scheduled for next year. That will provide me enough testing time to determine if it is, in fact my rod.

My prior post to this was just a funny story I made up. All kidding aside this is a most gracious donation by Dennis and is sure to help raise a good portion of money for RRTU !! And it will bring a smile to the face of the person that wins it !! I'll have to buy some tickets for this before they sell out !! When do they go on sale?
