Good Afternoon Ladies and Conservatives,
THis morning I awoke at 4:00 due to my biological alarm clock, but it happened to be a touch too early. I then set my phone alarm for 5:00am, however in a daze, I turned the sound off. DOH! I guess I didn't want to get up this morning!
At 7:00am I jumped out of my bed, got dressed, threw an egg on the stove and off I went! LATE! The HEMI was singin' as were the nitto's, damn they are loud...Made an hour trip in 39 minutes. Not sure as to why I needed to rush as the section of river I was going to fish is fairly remote, BUT, when ya gotta go, YA GOTTA GO!
I suited up and drenched myself in bug spray. The dang black flies were out in full force! I tied on a rootbeer bugger and caddis emerger and worked my way down my favorite run. At the end of the run, WHAM! This fish took me all over!! The drag was screaming and when this guy jumped out of the water, I was about to scream to!
A large brookie came to hand, and it was tagged! (I called it in, so we;ll see how much money this one is worth! I hope the 500 dollar fish!!! ) This fish was stocked in campground/park 3 miles upstream...Just goes to show how far trout do travel!
I rounded out the morning with many browns and bows, some dandys!!!!!! However, my last cast of the day resulted in a 40+lb beast...Yes, 40lb's...A SNAPPING TURTLE!! I was drifting this long pool, bouncing the bottom and my line stopped so I set. BAM. While, I thought i was snagged BUT it slowly came in...hmm, at first I thought it was a burlap bag...Upon further inspection it was a HUGE, NASTY, FEROCIOUS, KILLER snapping turtle...I had him hooked on the edge of the shell...Poor guy... I slowly brought him to shore, on 5lb test NONE THE LESS, and was able to salvage 1 of 2 flies...I wasn't putting my hand anywhere near that clamp...He was nasty! He slowluy made his way back to his deep haunt, and I vowed to myself I would never wet wade, NO MATTER HOW HOT IT GETS! Not that lightweight waders would do a damn bit of good against a snapping turtle, but it just makes me feel better...Will protect me from those helgremites and leeches though!!!
Enjoy the pics!!!
