Welcome back to the new NEFF. Take a break from Twitter and Facebook. You don't go to Dicks for your fly fishing gear, you go to your local fly fishing store. Enjoy!

Sunday morning FRUITCAKE seminar at the Symposium with, Gary Borger 7:30am

This thread is depressing, not one post about trout in 6 days, just a load of BS about some people who believe in stories that political and social control motivated individuals made up 2400 some odd years ago. I'll tell you, I met God, he was a 20" brook trout fatty! Who got a pic?
You know who the last person I would want to fish with? Joel Osteen, what a bible thumping, money hungry, con-artist! There are thousands like him. All they need is a weak mind to feed them!

I feel the same way about richard Dawkins:)

You like Joel Osteen, but Dawkins is bad?

I find Dawkins tiring at times. Lots of the argument is a bit scripted and staged, and has a WWE feeling to me.

I enjoy the outspoken criticism of religion tho....

I also enjoy Joel Osteen, but as a curiosity more than anything else.

He is a salesman.

I dont see him as bad, but the product he sells is religion, and religion is big business.

I can separate my belief that the product he sells is crap from my feelings about him as a person.

I wish I had his people skills. I'd sell religion too.

I think you missed the smiley face at the end of my post beetle.

You should not wish too big GB. One step at a time. You should get your bathroom skills in order first before you attempt a higher skill level.

I have many problems with religion. A prayer meet up at a fly show is not one of them. I do have a problem with a religion that protects child molesting priests. I also have a problem with all these prophets. You would think that god would have made it simple and have everyone following the same prophet. Instead every body is killing one another because they are doing what they think god has told them to. Thall shall not kill, unless of course it is in the name of god. Another question, which religion is right with so many teachings and interpretations who can say for sure they are following the word of god? I also love how " Christians" pick and chose what they wish to follow from the old testament and the new. I thought the new was the teachings of Jesus and that's what was supposed to be followed. Thall shall not steal, unless of course you are dupping simple minded people out of what little they have in the name of Jesus. Thall shall not covet the neighbors wife, well we all know there are a lot of supposed Christians doing a lot of coveting. I could go on forever but I gotta go covet my neighbors wife.

The Bible also tells us that we are all sinners and how and why to repent for those sins. Just sayin'

This Christian mentality is a major issue. The reason being is because you always have a way out of your wrong doings and someone to blame... Instead of just saying yeah, I fucked up and shouldn't have done that, you get to say the following:

1. God gave us free will
2. I can and will do whatever the fuck I want because all I have to do is repent and all is forgiven. Why is all forgiven? Because, "Jesus loves me".

Are you really trying to engage in this, or just trying to get a rise out if someone?

I can't speak for DC, but I didn't think 20 pages on this was nearly enough :2hammers:

:):):)

I think what I find comical is how bent out of shape atheists are about those of us that are religious. I tolerate your view, why can't you tolerate mine? I'm not someone that rams my personal beliefs about Christianity down anyone's throat. Live and let live.

Historically, I'm not sure religious folks have been as tolerant as you, Rusty.

I guess that throws all those commandments out the window....you really don't need to listen to them do you? Just sayin'......

wish I could fish the Musky Gorge tomorrow, but I have to work...:)

I'm 100% on board the atheist train to hell too and I completely agree with your last statement.

However, I don't see the big deal with a bible bumping prayer sesh at this gig. It doesn't seem like they're trying do anything but have a good time and jerk off to the bible.. Let them be.

Be a good atheist and respect their religious views. Maybe one day they will respect our nonexistent religious views too.

Or maybe not..

I guess I'm just not seeing how a guy having a bible study is not respecting someone's views

I have zero respect for religion. I respect your right to practice whichever religion makes you feel like a better person though, as long as your belief doesn't have any affect on me whatsoever.

So why is it that ANY religion should have ANY political influence on ANYTHING?

and where does this nonsense start? It starts with any 1 person being an active or supporting member of a religious congregation. Your membership and/or donation is your support for the church and its representatives, be it a priest or imam or Pastor or whatever speaks for the entire congregation. And once anything is changed because of a large religious presence supporting (your organization here), it affects me.

This is satire but...

Maybe one day.

The fruitcake seminar will not affect me whether I attend the fly show or not. It is a fairly entertaining topic though, look at the views and the replies.

Religion effects everyone of us everday.laws are passed on religous beliefs. Wars are fought because of religion. You only needto look at isis to see this. Their beliefs are driving them to do what they are doing. We may say that they are barbaric but they believe this is what god wants. Thankfully Christians never did anything like this. Whoops forgot about the crusades!

That's not it at all; you should follow the Commandments always. But Christ taught us that we are all sinners if you are a believer. But let's just say you don't believe as I know you don't. Wouldn't you agree that the old Golden Rule applies well in life? That's really (to me, anyway) boiling down the 10 Commandments. Pretty hard not to agree with the golden rule even if you have no religion.

(although it's pretty hard to agree with the golden beetle)

Sorry you can't hit up the Musky Gorge tomorrow and sorry for such short notice. One day soon, this will be fully open to the public. At least that's my goal for now.

You are not the naive DC.
It has always been and will always be about being elected.

The majority of Americans (73%) identify themselves as Christians and about 20% have no religious affiliation. According to the American Religious Identification Survey(ARIS) of 2008, 76% of the American adult population identified themselves as Christians, with 51% professing attendance at a variety of churches that could be considered Protestant or unaffiliated, and 25% professing Catholic beliefs. The same survey says that other religions (including, for example, Judaism, Buddhism,Islam, and Hinduism) collectively make up about 4% of the adult population, another 15% of the adult population claim no religious affiliation
