8-10 weights do the trick. Landed a 28 pounder on a 8 weight a few years back. Big blues are a real blast on a 8 weight but they kill your flies.

6 to 7 u think might be able to do the job. i was chatting w a guy at sandy hook he said he uses 6-7 weight for albacore?

IMO,that is ridiculous.I suppose there is a difference between using one and catching with one.Six weight....albies......:rofl:

I agree with waterworker 6-7 weights are too light. 8 weights are even a little light when the big ones are around. Lost 2 fly lines in 2 days awhile back when big bass smoked me under a train bridge I fish by.
