Shannon's Fly
Shannon's Fly and Tackle is once again sponsoring Traditional Angler Day, a day devoted to the history and continuing utility of the cane rod and classic tackle Saturday May 12, 2012 from 10am until 4pm at the Raritan Inn located on County Road 513 in Califon New Jersey. We will have food and lots of folks showing off their wares and just casting rods! Dennis Menscer, Pere Brandon, Mark Aroner, Jim Downes and others will be on hand. John Shaner will be there from Hardy. Artist Michael Simon will also be on hand, among his latest work was the cover of the LL Bean Fly Fishing catalogue.

Hope I can make it - I may have to be somewhere else.

I have gone all the other years and it really is a class event. The rod builders are as good as you will find anywhere. These guys are at the top of the game. John Shaner knows everything about Hardy you need to know and Michael Simon is the nicest artist you will ever meet. The setting is beautiful and the food is good.

Shannon's is a very gracious host, and they should be thanked for putting on such a fine event - at no cost to any of us.

Maybe the likes of other premium rod builders like Lynch and myself, owner of Trouser Trout Custom Rodworks LLC, should have been formally invited so we could exhibit our finely honed skills and technique. Unfortunately, we were once again snubbed. Despite the snubbing, I wish them a successful day.

I agree wholeheartedly -- NEFF needs to be represented because we do have some GREAT BUILDERS

Neff is well represented there and all are welcome to come and show off their handcrafted bamboo fly rods.NEFF fly rod builders Ronbo , CatskillJohn and JKlett are usually there and always have a good selection of boo on hand. So stop down and check it all out ! Have been there every year since it's beginning the food is always good and when you are done checking out the wares if you bring your bamboo you can fish the club waters .. Always a great time checking in to see what everyone is building and taking them for a test cast.. If you would like to be included as a builder all you have to do is notify Jim you will be there..:)

TT it's for bamboo rod builders not Dildo rod builders

TT it's for bamboo rod builders not custom boron/graphite/fiberglass rod builders

Oh... the post wasn't clear to me...... I guess that explains why a representative from Trouser Trout Custom Rodworks LLC was not asked to be on hand demonstrating our old world fine craftsmanship. Reality is we probably couldn't make it anyway, we are swamped with orders right now, we have just started to fill orders from 2009. We are no longer accepting new custom orders until at least 2013.

My bamboo and rod case will be finally complete and ready to use on S.T.A.D. Looking forward to seeing all you guys. I will post pics next Friday. The finish on the case still needs to be sanded and polished

Although I dont have or own a BOO rod -- I will be there -- Went 1.5 years ago and had a GREAT TIME -- Couldn't get the day off from worjk last year -- I did get the day off for this year --- Looking forward to seeing my fellow N.E.F.F ers there -- If yoy guys who do go want to hit the Local Stream or evem the GORGE afterwards I would be honored to fish with you guys -- Just a suggestion -- Who knows it could be fun and a memorable evening

Let me Know -- or better yet lets get a list going

Peace
Dan

Wish I could have gone, but work gets in the way of all the fun....
I heard the J.D. Wagner quad my friend David brought was a big hit, and he said everyone got to handle his rod....hope it was a great day.

This one was too easy. I'm gonna give him a pass

Had a great time at Traditional Angler day today. Thanks to Jim and Eric from Shannon's for creating such a fine event at a great location.

Good time hanging with danme and tomfly. Topnotch guys, both. Got to cast the rod that tomfly just finished; and boy does that lay some line out! Nice job.

Here's a photo of my friend George in action, (casting in the green shirt) who built my bamboo rod and had a couple of other nice rods that were well received on the casting lawn.

I had a great time at Shannon’s TAD. Jim and Eric put on a topnotch event. Barleywine made some brew that was just excellent he is truly a brew master. If you did not addend this year you should make an effort to make it next year.

Correction to Barleywines and tomfly's post -- It was Jim and George who put this event on -- Barleywine is a GREAT GUY with lots of knowledge -- Thank You Barley for the compliment -- tomfly and I also fished Shannons club Water -- We caught some really nice big fish -- I was lucky enough to catch one of the Special Rainbows (Camloop Rainbows) they stocked in there years ago -- All the fish I caught were on Sulpher emerger -- After the event tomfly and I hit the gorge and had great success -- We both hooked up with several fish -- Mine were caught on Sulpher Dries -- All in all it was a great day -- Thanks Jim and George for lending me a BOO ROD to fish your private water

Peace
Dan

We all had a great time at Traditional Angler Day! Tim Flagler of Tightline Productions was onhand at the event with his camera. You can watch the video here:
