New Jersey Trout Unlimited (NJTU) is celebrating 40 years as a State Council.

On Saturday, November 12, 2011, NJTU along with Shannon’s Fly & Tackle Shop and the Raritan Inn in Califon will be hosting the 2nd Annual New Jersey Fly Fisherman of the Year Competition. A banquet will follow follow the competition in celebration of NJTU’s 40th Anniversary.

Come out for an evening of fun, auctions and tales of lore as we celebrate the winner of the one fly contest and look back on the 2011 fly fishing year (or the “rain / water year” as we have come to know).

Tickets are $60 (and strictly limited to 60 people) and available at Shannon’s

Fly & Tackle – 908 832-5736. www.shannonsflytackle.com

Details available at www.njflyfisherman.com
Thanks and hope to see you there!

As a follow up, this is the second year for the One Fly with last year's competition being an amazing two-way tie that went over 2 hours in sudden death play off. The winner last year was Ken Lockwood chapter's Bill Silvia over a representative from the Upper Raritan Watershed Association (now combined with the South Branch Watershed Association and named Raritan Headwaters Assoc.).

The banquet will have some wonderful items for silent auction and raffle chances. The catered food is always excellent and the atmosphere is very intimate in the old historic barn behind the Raritan Inn B&B on rt. 513. This is Shannon's private water and attendees will be able to fish on the water (SBR) after the One Fly contest is over. This year I think we have one fishing competitor from each of our 10 TU chapters and one each from the Raritan Headwaters Association and the Musconetcong Watershed Association. Profits from the event will go to the NJTU state council and the 2 watershed associations to further their work to protect and restore two great NJ trout rivers and their tribs.

There will be rods and reels, artwork and the like as well as guest speakers and Hardy showing off their line of products throughout the day and into the evening. It's a great cause and you'll be surrounded by fly fishing friends, so please come on out and support TU and the watershed associations.

It was a great time last year, I recommend it to anyone who is considering signing up. The Final standoff in the one fly was cool to see, and it was a day of good conversation. Wish I could go myself ,but thats right in the middle of crunch time for getting my work done.
