Salmon River high flows

I'm headed to the Salmon River on Sunday for my annual trip and see the flows are a bit high right now. I haven't been over there yet with flows over 1000 and right now its at 2160. I'm sure this is less than ideal, but would love any tips people might care to share about how to fish the river with higher flows. PMs appreciated

Don't sweat it too much.

Oct 1, 2010 didn't scare any of these guys away or stop them from catching fish once they got there. Parking might be tough. ;)

I'm no expert, but I have found OK fishing at 2000+ in the back channels that are normally too low to fish. Look for the small side channels around islands and check them out.

Fished Sunday and Monday. Flows on the big river in Pineville over 1,800 on Sunday. Fished elsewhere Sunday morning and got the Doug in the afternoon with a minimal amount of cars there for the first weekend in Nov. Kind of noticing a trend the past few years where Mondays are more crowded than Sundays. Weather was nice, not much wind for a freakin' change. Got to my favorite high water spot with nobody in the run. Hit three fish in two hours of fishing. Bright chrome fish. Some coho's mixed through the day.

Yesterday morning was tough. Started off at 21 F but felt like below zero. Forgetting the gloves was not very good. Slow morning where I started...only hit 1 'ho. Finished yesterday at the Doug. Lost a steel and a King. Enjoy the porn.

Like Jeff said. Hit the back channels.

Had a few GREAT days at 3600. As said by others, really have to pick your spots, and above all, be safe.

The flipped over porta john in the video is a nice touch. :beingsick:

River is at 2000cfs. Be safe and wear a life jacket. Also hit the side channels. They should be full of fish.

Got to Pulaski on Monday the 18th, the day after the dam release was increased...flows around 1,600cfs in Pineville, more so further downstream at the Doug.

Large chrome were very much present in the stream. Most fish still focused on egg patterns but did pick a few up on a few different nymph patterns. Fished Monday - Wednesday, of the 19 fish brought to hand, 4 of them were brownies. Some nice chromers, as pictured below.
