Fishizzle, I use worms but I'm looking to upgrade!
Fished the Salmon this weeknd(sunday/monday) and had a decent weekend considering how bad the crowds were. Tried mid river sunday morning and things were pretty slow with only a couple hookups and 1 fish landed. Crowds were bad down there too, and it was frustrating because my buddy and I got to our spot at 4:45 am only to have the goons come out and surround us right at first light.
After a somewhat slow morning I took my buddy up to the unemployment hole to get him hooked up as he had never caught a steelhead. Fishing turned on pretty good up there and he was able to land his first steelhead ever, a nice 5-6lb fish that was pretty chromed up. I landed a few nice fish here myself and we moved on after that since the crowds were brutal up there.
Monday I decided to float as I hoped crowds would be lighter and covering water would give us the best opportunity at a good day. Wrong. Crowds were still out in numbers and fishing remained tough with low flows and fish locked jawed for a good portion of the day. I was able to land a few nice fish on nymphs/buggers which I thought may have been bc the goons were all throwing eggs and bright stuff so natural worked a little better. Fought a few other nice fish before losing them at the arches and called it a trip. Overall not terrible fishing with 7 fish landed and a good amount of hookups ,but we could use some water to scare off some of the remaining salmon crowd which is still around in numbers snagging away. I'll be back in a couple weeks I'm going to wait for the salmon to die off(there are still a ton around) and temps to cool a bit. Here's a couple pics...
