Ressica Falls

It has been YEARS since I fished Resicca (SP?) I am brand new to this forum, and was just wondering if anyone might have anything to say about how the fishing has been at Ressica....???

Ressica has been doing fine. I typically fish it after Memorial Day since the crowds are way down and the fishing is fine until the water warms. With the clearer water in late spring/early summer the small stuff does better.

Everybody fishes Piano Pool, the big pool in the section. If you like to explore and fish pocket water Ressica is your place.

I have been camping near there the week after labor day for about four years now, but last year was the first time we went past ressica. What is the best access/ parking point? Also, is there any trout action that late in the year?

The issue with the Bushkill (the Monroe Co one) is that it is dark water and goes through a bunch of shallow upstream ponds where it warms up. In wet years it is generally fine - in dry years the summer can be tough. By October the water is usually cool and the stream is freshly stocked. Labor Day is a crap shoot. A cool, wet summer can produce good fishing - a hot dry summer will find the few surviving trout tucked away into a few thermal refuges where it isn't sporting (or occassionally legal) to pursue them.

With tons of caddis flies and miles of broken water I find Ressica to be one of my favorite place for working traditional wet flies or using Czech nymphs.

TNX. Guess I'll have to be content with the bass, and (ugh!) pickerel, unless you can recommend another trout stream in the area?

I was out there Sunday 9/16 in the afternoon. Fishing was OK - plenty of fish around but the low, clear water made them spooky. Got about 10 in the afternoon, a bunch of cookie cutter rainbows in the pocket water and one nice 16" colored up brown in the next pool below Piano Pool.

The browns were starting to color up and were starting to get aggresive towards each other.

I too, would like to know about access. Is the Scout Reservation the only place to access the river there? I've heard there is a fee involved with using their lot - any truth to that? I know their signs are a bit confusing.

The major public accesses to the Bushkill are the Boy Scout camp and the NPS land.

Resica Falls Boy Scout Camp owns 6 miles of the Brodhead and they charge $20 for an annual fishing permit. Not too much money, but it is hard to find the store open to purchase one. Once you get a permit they mail you renewals. (If you don't have a permit, I would fish and apologize and pay up in the rare chance that you got caught).

The Boy Scout camp has two fishermen parking lots. One is near the main entrance off Rte 402. Keep going straight past the Office/Camp store and the parking lot is a few 100 yards past the end of the pavement on your right. Fishing is prohibited within 200 yds of the main falls and the ends of the no-fishing zone are well marked. Most people walk about 1/2 mile down to the huge pool called Piano Pool. However, the pocket water is just loaded with fish if you like fishing it. You can also park by the Office and walk upstream - nobody else does it and you will have lots of peace and quiet (just be sure to start fishing at least 200 yds above the falls - it is marked). The fishing up there is really up and down for me. It is either poor or excellent with nothing in between. The other parking area is 1 1/2 miles up Firestone Rd, the dirt road to the left towards camp Firestone just before you cross the Bushkill. Need to park and walk about 1/2 mile to get to the stream. There is a beautiful waterfall at the end of this trail that is in a more natural setting than the main falls. The dirt road has plenty of potholes and it is a long 1 1/2 miles. However, that keeps the number of people who fish up there way down.

The other public access to the Bushkill is the last two miles of creek on the NPS property. By the Rte 209 crossing take the road to the left. It is public all the way up to the next bridge.

Re: Resica Falls

Thanks! JeffK to the rescue again.

I'm not one who's brave enough to go driving through land I'm not sure I'm allowed on, which is why I haven't tried up there. I'll give it a shot the next time I'm up there.

just want to update jeff's post, the fee is not 20$. they are open to any donation amount you have on hand, or wish to give.

i love that place end of summer/fall....i wish they gave out camping permits tho. id love to be the last at night and first in the morning

It should be fishing good now with all the rain and the cool night temps. As Jeff stated it will fish OK by labor day if we get a wet summer. The last couple of years I did well on the Big Bushkill all year.

Even when I was going for Smallies in late August with large wooly buggers in the deeps holes at the lower border of Ressica to where it turns into public assess I caught trout.

That way this liar wearing the white hood and burning cross will reach in and take what ever donations were in the collection box.

I fished Ressica falls several times this year, for the first times. I paid 20$ also, and joined the fly club. Decent fishing

Fly Club?

If you join there club does that allow you to fish as much as you want there without the $20.00 day fee?

AK: I gave them a total of 30$,{ not counting the 2 hats I bought } It gets me fishing on the res. all year-20$- plus nice patch for joining " Resica Falls Trout Club " 10$ donation.

Fishing was good early in year-April,May- Haven't been back since.

There's a fly club?

Crokit if you don't mind, could you post here (or PM me) the details. I had no idea there was a club of some sort. I thought the fee (donation) to fish there was stopped years ago.

DIZZY: My permit states" Cradle of Liberty Council... Resica Falls Scout Res. "

Valid for 2009. Flyfishing only. I remember the Gentleman stating that permit could not be issues to persons not having a valid Pa. Fishing License. Purchased at their store. If no one is there, they are usually at the maintainence shop just beyond and outback.

Also, the back of the permit DOES state " Suggested minimum donation-20$ tax deductible ". I guess the " club " is simply permit holders who gave additional "donation", for which a patch was issued. Purty lil thing.

The Boy Scout camp at Ressica is not a fly fishing club but a place where fly fisherman fish and donate to a good cause. The money goes towards grounds keeping and up keep of the property. Also there is a race way there that is maintained by the camp which contains trout to be stocked in addition to what the state stocks. So it is worth the $20 for your pass it is good for 1 year and is purchased each spring. Once registered you will recieve your application in the mail and you can register from home. There are also cabins for rent there if you would like to stay. Hope this helps you out!:)

the first time my buddy brought me there i only had 5$ in cash, i keep most in the bank and use a check card. they took the 5$ without question. very nice man. i just want him to allow camping. i'd pay 50$ for that.

AK, it's not $20/day it's $20 per year, but it is a voluntary donation. It is for a worthy cause, the Boy Scout Camp, to support the upkeep of the grounds, etc.

I'd probably just be better off knocking your old a$$ into next week:give-the-finger:. I consider the BSA a worthy cause.

I consider the BSA a worthy cause.

But why?

You never answered the question...

I bet someone told you that it was a worthy cause a long time ago and now you forgot the reason.

Just go with the crowd.

Give me a BAaaaa... BAAaaaaaaa...

Come on don't be shy on us now.

BAAaaaaa.... BAAaaaaaa....

Internet tough guy? Oh please, what do you think you're doing by jumping here between me and AK. Apparently some of you can't take a joke (I guess I thought this funny symbol :give-the-finger: would help tip folks off that I wasn't really serious.) AK was a smart ass with me so I was in my reply to him. Evidently only AK and I can tell neither of us is really seriously ripping on each other out of anger. I enjoy AK's posts that can tend to test our patience, he likes to stir the pot and see who he can get a rise out of at times. My one liner back to him wasn't really serious at all and I'm sure AK knows that, which is all that matters.

And AK, to really answer your question I consider the BSA a worthy cause because I was a Boy Scout and enjoyed it and got a lot out of it. Aside from the fun outdooor activities it teaches young men respect, honor, community service, etc. All things young me (boys) need to learn to be productive, quality Americans in my opinion. No other reasons than that.

In other words you couldn't play baseball, hockey or football.

You should have said that the first time.. I couldn't play.... sports.

Now how about that .. BAAAaaaa.. BAaaaaa

OK, I'll keep playing this game. I wrestled for Easton, ever heard of it? (if you know wrestling at all you should have) A pretty demanding year-round commitment to be on that team, so unfortunately I wasn't in boy scouts past jr high although I did assist in a friend's Eagle Scout project. Played football and baseball through jr high, even made baseball all-star team once. Easton HS's football team didn't need a 125lb tight end, lol, so I just stuck with wrestling.

But enough about me, what did you ever do your greatness? Were you one of those geeks on safety patrol at your school, training for your future as a mall rent-a-cop? :looser:
