Welcome back to the new NEFF. Take a break from Twitter and Facebook. You don't go to Dicks for your fly fishing gear, you go to your local fly fishing store. Enjoy!

OK, Let's see those tying stations.....!!!

Don't Know Nothin Yet
With all the hype on who's the better tyer on the forum, and the Fall season almost here, this is a thread to show off what you got. I "just" started tying myself, and am in the process of setting up a "Tying Station", Desk, area, whatever you want to call it. Post a PIC or two of your tying area. I'd like some ideas. I found a free roll top desk on craigslist, and just made up a rack for all my spools of thread. I still want to make a tool holder, and some other stuff. I have this desk in my home office room, so I want to keep it organized and neat. We've seen your flies, so post some PIC's of where you tie them....:D

You want it neat?
Beware.....

I can't find it, so it may take some searching to find it, but AKSkim had a pretty nice set up.
Might be a bit much for a corner in a "Home Office" though.

Also see the topics I found when I was looking for it.

Pete, cool links. Thanks. Yeah, I found a free roll-top desk on craigslist, but it's a POS. Hey, will do for now since it was a freeB. Now I've been looking at nice big roll-top desks. I like the roll-top due to having a messy work area, and just close the top down and walk away without cleaning up. Everything is covered and lookin good. Plus it'll keep the dogs out of trouble....lol My older dog is a stoner and loves to snuff head cement...:smiley-sniffer::hubbahubba:

Mine is where ever i happen to unload my crap :D

Mine is quite simple. I just use two pieces of plywood (one on top that I put my vise on and then I have one on bottem. on the sides I have 1.5 inch oak that seperates the top and bottom. This allows you to place materials in a little cubby if you need room. No legs on the table. this allows you to bring it wherever (camping, watching a game, back of your car. I like to place it on a plastic storage holder you can get at walmart for $30. it has 5 compartments and stands at a perfect height if I am in a chair. It fits all of my materials with ease. also in the wood you can drill holes to put tools in or install pins for thread. I also have a bunch of wine corks to put finished flies on to dry. I can take a pic if you need a visual. Very cheap, and mobile.

Na, that's cool but thanks though. I do like the mobile set-up idea though, but for now, just workin on getting this desk set up and cookin. When I'm able to tie more than the 2 flies I currently know how to now(LOL), I'll make up something I can use while on the move. I saw some good PIC's in Pete's reply. Got some good ideas. I have a complete woodshop and was a cabinet makers years ago, so making someing isn't an issue. It's just nice to see what others have so I know what to make instead of taking time to make something, then seeing something better that I'd like to have and then having to redo it. I want to make something up right the first time. I'd rather spend my free time in the stream....;) I know I'm into this for life, so no rush either. Just looking around and gathering ideas.

Here's my Traveling kit, It's all I use home or away.
I travel quite a bit between my home and the Catskills.
Everything I need is in here, even the fully stocked bar:beer:
Has plexiglass covers that open and hold full skins.
holds my thread dubbing and hooks in the top and my necks quills and skins in the bottom.
has a sliding tying platform with built in tool holders that pulls out of the bottom.
built in light that swings out of the box and can run on battery or solar power for tying outside and at night.
and of course the fully stocked Jameson bar in easy reach.:thumb:
It's all I need

I also have a roll-top desk and use it as a tying station. A couple of years ago I got a bar that I use as a storage area for my tying stuff (1st pic) it is on the right of the desk. The shelves that store the rest of my stuff is on the Left (2nd pic). I pull the desk top surface out on the left of the desk to hold my tying station. I can spread out on the desk surface and the computer is close.
