Zark,
Run fast from flyfishing, it becomes an absolte addiction. (Welcome to the sport, it's always a good time). Your best bet is finding a place where there isn't a great deal of overhanging branches, and snags to lose every single one of your flies within 5 minutes. The EB of the Croton is a fun little river, and it is open all year round, but it actually might not be your best bet because of all of the overhanging branches and tangles. (besides it's been very crowded lately on weekends). When a certain major flyfishing retailer which will remain nameless on thi little ponds,s website conducts their intro to flyfishing classes, they take their students to a pond with no over hanging branches. You target pan fish, and bass because they are so much more forgiving when you first begin. I would recomend finding some little ponds and practicing your casting before you try a Small brach choked stream like the EB. If you do decide to try the EB, feel free to PM me and I'll let you know how it's fishing, and give you a hint or two about where on the river to try first.
