My montauk trip

jamiep

homeward bound
montauk 012.jpgmontauk 014.jpgmontauk 009.jpgmontauk 010.jpgSo i just got back from a week long trip to montauk with the wife and baby.
Right before we left my guide buddy sent me a few snaps of some bass blitz's that looked like you could walk along there backs for a 1/4 of a mile so i figured my chances of hooking up would be great (think again).

So we arrived on friday the 17th i made a short trip to the beach where i was greeted by massive breakers all along the shore. uh oh i thought this is going to suck i thought to myself. The actual thought of trying to get on a rock to cast scared the sheet out of me especially having a baby at home nowdays.

I decided to make a few calls to my buddy to get a guide trip going . They were all booked up go figure.
Anyway they squeezed me in somehow which was great. My biggest dream over the last 9 months was to catch an albie on the fly and i was sure it was going to happen,Especially being on a boat

So wednesday i headed out for trip number 1 and we chased albies around for a few hours to no avail.
Then all of a sudden they just vanished and by christ they were picky bastids that morning.
But what i did experence was nothing but big blue fish blitz's that were just crazy to watch we hooked into a few and lost quite a few flies in the process.

My guide wanted to keep me out all night but i could not due to the wife and baby waiting at home for me

.So we called it a day with a few blues to our name.

So on to trip number 2 big bad soth westerly wind blowing all morining and the previous night muddied the water up somthing feirce but i was positive that i could get an albie.

We checked out a few spots all the way north of gin beach to see nothing but balls and balls of bait relaxing with no worries of being attacked.
My guide the suggested another spot . We set off on our way crusing along when i screamed at him over the strong wind stop the boat albies at 9 oclock . I stripped out my line bust a nice 20ft cast into the wind and sure enough bang my first albie was on WOW was all i could think my reel was spooled in about 10 seconds flat Running around the boat like a lunatic trying to catch up it was great . At this point my hands are shaking from the adrenaline i had to gather myself and get A grip i thought haha.

We landed the fish and she completley swallowed the whole fly we coudnt even see it
We hooked up with a few more blues that day on what looked to me like nobody was catching anything due to the weather.

So i went to montauk to catch somthing i only dreamed of for months and boy what a feeling it was im still on cloud nine and the obsession is way way out of control now.

Great report, though I have to admit I knew all of this already! Wish I could have joined you but it's not easy defending the environment. One of these days I will make it out fishing I swear!
