Welcome back to the new NEFF. Take a break from Twitter and Facebook. You don't go to Dicks for your fly fishing gear, you go to your local fly fishing store. Enjoy!

mayfly nymphs

JasonM

Trout Hunter
Yesterday while on the Willowemoc, Dennis and I collected some nymphs. We did find some that appeared to be very cream colored and almost white. We originally thought this must have been a sulphur, but after viewing photos of sulphurs and pale morning duns, the nymph stage of both of those are very dark in color. It was definatley a clinger style of fly. We also appeared to find some brown drakes.

Jason:

I feel a pattern that would work for this nymph you found would be the Jersey Cream. Now I have to go look up what this fly imitates. This pattern is old and was once fished with great success on the Musky in NJ. This is on of my New Jersey forgotten Fly's pattern. I get back to you with more info tomorrow when I do a little research tonight.

Hey Jason... can't help you with the nymphs but curious as to what was hatching this weekend and if you had risers. Which rivers?? Thanks for your input. I going to try and get out over the next couple of days. WBD is staying high, at 2000 CFS, almost if they've opened the valve so if I get up there it will likely be on the Beaver or Willow.

Fred,

We fished the Beaverkill and the Willow.

BEAVERKILL
Tons of Caddis through-out the day, some Stone Fly's, and a Hendrickson here and there. Later on in the day, I saw quite a few Hendricksons, but not enough to call it a full on hatch. The Browns I caught with the exception of 1 or 2 were caught on a size 16 xtended body grey caddis.

WILLOW
Caddis were everywhere. Nice river, but no fish seen by me.

By the way, He's watching for you! Spotted again!

Caddis all over the place on the Beaver and the Willo. I didn't see many rising to the caddis, but Dennis did take quite a few on top with a black caddis on the opposite side of the river from me. Dennis at Catskill flies also had reports of people taking them on black caddis. I only saw two hendricksons coming out of the water yesterday with nothing coming near them. I mainly fished the bottom with stoneflies. Another guy that came up with me caught a few on a beadhead reddish colored quill body caddis larvae. Don't ask me why, because it didn't look like anything on the bottom of the river. Maybe something different for the fish I guess.

I meant to ask what do you think the light colored nymphs may have been?
Jason,

I didn't get home until after 9:00 last night so I didn't have much time to ID anything except for a Yellow Drake I found on the Beaverkill. This appeares to be a fully matured nymph which will hatch in my local fish tank! :)

I'll try to post some more later on.

Dennis

gotta get a video camera on that thing in your fish tank. I have had caddis match in my collection bottles before I get home.

Great, thanks again... I've got a bunch of adult and emergers tie'd up. I'll report back if I get up there!
