Get the LL Bean Streamlight. Get the whole combo... Rod, reel and line.

Less that 200 bucks for all that.

And the rod casts well.

I own 2 Streamlight rods.

I bought my 9 year old an entry level Leon Leonwood Bean outfit last year for his birthday, i love it, he loves it and i think if you visit the LL Bean website you will find something that sates your needs.

There is a lot of options with 2 bills. You can go with t.f.o, cabelas, cortland, st, and if you beg Ron and take him to the super bowl, maybe he would build you a boo for 2 bills!!! Giants!!!!!!!!!

DOnt forget Albright, i have one as a spare rod and I have to agree with the review that is casts on par with the Z-Axis

While Albright rods receive decent reviews, their warranty service is horrible, do some searches and you will see the hoops you have to jump through & it is at their discretion. Their build quality is not that great either, my friend has a bunch of their rods and I have had to make simple repairs for him, such as guide epoxy. All in all, not impressed overall and I would never buy one.

You can't go wrong with Bean, they replace no questions asked.

i REMEMBER VISITING LL BEAN WITH MY FOLKS IN ABOUT 1973 WHEN IT WAS AN OLD TIME MAINE OUTDOOR STORE. I HAVE BEEN A FAN EVER SINCE....

I have never used an LL Bean rod, but I do purchase most of my gear from them (waders, raingear, boots, etc.) and they have always been good products. If it matters to you, not all of their gear is manufactured in the US which is a trend that is hard to get away from.

Redington makes a great inexpensive rod, I believe you can get the reel with it for quite a bit under $200.00.....

Spend the money, buy a WINSTON ;)

You can never go wrong with any L.L. Bean product.

I was in the market for a vehicle that had good traction. I called L.L. Bean. They suggested and I purchased this:

It's pretty good in the snow, but the laces NEVER stay tied and they fray. I will NEVER buy one of those again no matter how many times they replace the frayed laces for free. NEVER.

dont buy their snowshoes.
(exception that proves the rule?)
granted, you could just return them when the break...but why bother when you already know the outcome?

agreed. i have one that fits the bill nicely for me and i dont regret the purchase, but i wouldnt go back either.

whatever you do, dont waste your money on their reels.

Redington and Greys are probably the nicest rods I've seen for under $200. Also check out the Scott A3, being closed out currently.
