Welcome back to the new NEFF. Take a break from Twitter and Facebook. You don't go to Dicks for your fly fishing gear, you go to your local fly fishing store. Enjoy!

A beautiful job. I noticed you tie in a sparse black bear wing. Most of the patterns I see have a heavier wing. That's no knock, just an observation. In the saltwater, I've learned that my streamers like Deceivers catch more fish after some blues tear them up a bit and they are more sparsely tied. Not sure I've made that correlation with trout, but they don't have the teeth that blues do. Either way, you're a heck of a tyer/tie-er/whatever the correct spelling of the day is:)

Nice sharp tie JU..... just don't focus on the vise next time....you boob......

Doesnt it echo in your head by now? KEEP IT SPARSE! :) Thanks Rusty.

Nice sparse tie of a New Jersey related fly. The black, red, and white streamers are good when the chubs spawn in the spring. The spawning males get in those colors and aggressively try to protect their nests against all comers. Of course big old brown trout take advantage of the sex crazed males.

It's not to often that I fish this fly in larger sizes, or many streamers in larger sizes. This one is on a Daiichi 2340 #6. I like this fly also with a gold holographic rib. :)

Isn't it enough this boob has an entire gorge named after him, does he really need his own fly pattern as well?

Yes he does. Ken Lockwood had a lot of things going for him.

1. He was from New Jersey
2. He promoted the current practice of put and take trout stocking because in most places fingerling stocking doesn't work. This is controversial today, but he was the big force behind adult trout stocking which we all take for granted today.
3. Less controversial, he was a big promoter of public hunting and fishing grounds and public fishing rights. Back in the 20's and 30's many people thought that all the good hunting and fishing spots would be leased to the rich leaving most of us with no where to go. Mr Lockwood pestered the powers to be and the Flatbrook WMA which includes famed Werner's hole was the first public hunting and fishing grounds. There is a poor condition historical sign for this near Shafer's Bridge if you look hard. For his contributions to the public land movement he got a WMA named after him.
4. He was from New Jersey - where all the best fly fishermen come from. (can't repeat that too much)

Ken Lockwood if I remember correctly was an outdoor writer for the Newark Evening News. A friend of mine's father worked at the News and often fished with Ken. After Ken passed away some of his fishing equipment ended up with my friends father and I was given one of Ken's nets which I subsequently managed to lose in the Beaverkill, something I still regret.

A car hit it last year sometime and it's now only half there...:crap:

John,

That's tough about the net. But I lose them all the time myself so I know how it happens.

PA may be that for fishing, but for everything else, except maybe scrapple, A-Treat, Yuengling, and tasty Cakes, maybe the collar bone.
