George Steinbrenner the man who you either loved or hated passed today at the age of 80. What will happen with the Yankees now? Good or bad you will be missed George...

The Yankees are fine, he had already turned over control of running the team to his sons two seasons ago and they won another World Series. No matter how any baseball fan felt about him, one thing you have to say is that as an owner the man wanted to win and if needed was willing to spend lots of his own money to do so.

I'm not a George Steinbrenner fan, but he was a marketing genius. He took over the Yankees at a low point at their history and supercharged the franchise. Look at the number of Yankees hats, sweatshirts, bumper stickers etc out there. You see the Yankee logo everywhere you go. He was a cantankerous, obsessive guy - but maybe that is what is needed to kick an underperforming organization into shape.

as a yankee fan, i loved george. The guy always did whatever he thought was needed to field a winning team.....what else could a fan want?

Agree, love him or hate him he did his best all the time to field a winning team and never once complained about the cost. And that success on the field helped build the overall success of the franchise so they could (and can) always afford to obtain the best players. Success breeds success.

I just hope the sons don't trash the "pride & tradition" in the name of cash now that dad is gone.

The last thing I want to see is a rag tag bunch wearing 6 different uniforms playing in Bank of America Field @ Yankee Stadium.

George may have fired my beloved Billy 5 times but we both forgave him.

RIP Boss!

Go Yanks!

Even Yogi came to forgive George..... I think as long as the Steinbrenners are running the show, we will not have to worry about the uniform of the week, or any stupid stadium names. it was ironic that Billy died "sliding into home".......
