For the Sage Fishers Among Us

I have heard news (all secondhand, of course) that Sage is discontinuing their FLi and TCR series rods and these rods are currently being discounted heavily at retailers, which I was able to verify a few minutes ago when I bought myself a little something as an early Christmas present. :D

The FLi is a nice rod in Sage's lineup. Although in the lower end of their spectrum, it has really nice action for it's price range (well, make that it's previous price range). I've never cast a TCR, are they the cannons that people say they are?

Jessie:

Sage always gets rid of one line to bring on a new line for us to buy more fly rods. I loved the RPL, DS Series, the LL and SP & SP+. Knowing Sage, They will come out with another rod that I will love and add to this list. Now far as an Xmas gift for you, I think that's great what you did. I do the same thing too. It's good to treat yourself like this every now and then. Enjoy the the new rod.

I bought the 9 ft/ 5 wt fli last year. I'm very happy with it, you can cast
quite a bit of line with it.

9ft 4wt FLi owner, and love the rod! I would recommend anyone in the market to test cast one, especially if they are on big-time sale now.

I as well have a FLI 9' 5wt 4 pc. Great rod! It is the lower end of the SAGE rod line but I tested out the entire line before I moved to nj. I even tested a few rods that were just blanks. Hmmm maybe something new is in the oven.

Go SAGE

:dizzy:I have 3 sage rods and I love them. 9 weight which I only caught one fish on. A nice bone fish.

One 5 weight 3 peice which I love.

And a 3 weight which my nine year old now uses. We just broke it. Our boat battery fell on it.

But SAGE will fix it,

Cheers

Thanks to you I got a nice 8wt for Salmon River:)

Happy to do it. Then again, I have a shopping addiction - I guess I should really learn to cast the rods I already have before buying more. :D

Well, fishing equipment takes the place of shoes when it comes to a shopping addiction. I am short on shoes - don't ask how many purses I've got.

The never ending battle continues.....Coach purse vs Sage rod....

I have two older sage rpl 4pc rods; a 5 wt and a 7wt. I really like them both and brought the 5wt with me to Colorado this past week. The rod was just super to cast on big water and I could just drill big streamers through the wind. I can't imagine that any other rod would have been noticeably better to fish with. Sage is a great brand....Can someone post a link to the Cabela sale page? I couldn't find anything...

For anyone interested, the Angler's Roost out of Quebec has some Sage SLT's on clearance right now. He advertises in the TU mag. Back when the XP was being phased out for the Z-Axis, I picked up a 9 ft 5 wt and a 9ft 7 wt XP from him on clearance. I also purchased a 6 wt from the Fly Hatch :crap: around the same time.

I've never cast a TCR, are they the cannons that people say they are?

Being used to the XP's, the TCR's to me seem unbelievably fast. I just don't see the need for one unless you spend the majority of your time making super long casts or fish under extremely windy conditions.
