Welcome back to the new NEFF. Take a break from Twitter and Facebook. You don't go to Dicks for your fly fishing gear, you go to your local fly fishing store. Enjoy!

Fly fishing magazine

Favorites:
Fly Tyer - Because I am one and want to keep up with the latest and also resvisit the classics
Eastern Fly Fishing (Northeast Edition) - Where to go and what to use on our own regional waters

Good but not great:
Fly Rod and Reel - Everything fly fishing, the majority which I will never do
Fly Fisherman - Good all around fly fishing publication but not quite as meaty as it was years ago
American Angler - Some articles I can identify with

For most of you on this site I would recommend Eastern Fly Fishing - Northeast Edition

most of the fly tying/fishing magazines dont really offer that much in the way of the latest and greatest (at least for me) and seem to rehash articles over and over. after reading them for 30+ years you see alot of repetition. now i hit the local newsstand in the bookstore and only buy issues that interest me.

i like the free online magazines the most - flymage, montana fly fishing, this is fly, southern culture on the fly, catch (when it was free) etc

i do subscribe to trout fisherman magazine from the uk but thats about it.

salmon trout steelheader. it's an OR/WA publication but gives a lot of great information. i like this publication because it does not seem to expose too many specific places but rather focuses on techniques of all types including that other than fly fishing with lots of well-written, meaningful articles. I feel they are responsible in that they often expose environmental issues as opposed to giving detailed information on one of your favorite around the way spots

The flyfish Journal....It is interesting, great photography and non-repetitive....it has stories and articles, no bullshit!!!
I also enjoy The Drake(very humorous, love the sarcasm in it), and Trout and Salmon (U.K.)....
Grey's sporting journal is also worth the paper it is printed on.
I find the other publications to be trite and un-interesting...kind of like most of my posts.:)

Curious what online mags people like. Agree with NJPatbee and Flytire that some of the more traditonal magazines either re-hash (Tying the Pheasent Tail Nymph) or have less meaty content than I remember (or maybe I am getting old enough to just be complaining about things not being as good as they used to be...). I sort of recall that Drake used to be online in entirety, but now online content seems to be summary only. Flytire mentioned some others I am going to investigate. But now that accessing something online no longer means just at my desk but maybe on something like a pad, am more interested in what is out there. Thoughts?

The Drake is the only one I still subscribe to. I'll buy the others from time to time if they have an article that jumps out at me, but the Drake gets read cover to cover every time.
