Fishing Jinx continues to Ausable 6/10

Winter Blues gives way to Spring Fever
2011 appears to be my year for the much dreaded fishing jinx. So far I have been skunked in all outings with my fly rod. If you see me on the river, DO NOT APPROACH! This may be contagious, unknown. Beaverkill, skunked. Ausable, skunked. Ballston Lake, skunked! Kayderosseross, skunked.

Fished the Ausable for the first time on Friday. What pretty water. I love pocket water and have fished a lot of it. Tan Caddis 14, a few MBs, some stonefly nymphs crawling around (1 monster I almost brought home 2") also some really whispy light mayfly I couldn't identify. Some seriously dangerous wading up there, next time I bring a staff. I watched an old timer go for a swim.

The day started out great though; a great drive up from saratoga, when I pulled over to check out a creek right off the 87 exit there was this butterfly mating going on. I stumbled (literally) into a pod of about 200 tiger swallowtails that all took to flight around me even landing on my arms and head - very cool. I stopped into 2 fly and chatted, picked up a few flies then hit the river between the high falls and the camp ground. after working that water thoroughly, I went a little further up into the no kill area. found a nice stretch about 100 feet long and worked the crap out of it. made multiple passes with dries, matching a MB hatch as well as a caddis. made 2 passes with streamers- a zonker type bait fish and olive bugger, then made another 2 passes czech nymph style with 3 of my favorites. 16 flashback PT, 14 BH hares ear, 8 Kaufman stone. 8:30pm now and I give up before I get completely disgusted with myself. This is supposed to be fun, but in the hands of the Jinx frustration can take over. I am sure there were fish in that run but the jinx prevailed and I went home empty handed.

I will keep trying till I break this Jinx. I may just have to break down and go to my buddys private pond and grab some bass and pickeral on poppers to shake it. Anyways, not a great report, but a report nonetheless.:puking-smiley:

This is no JINX. This is something worse than a jinx.

It reads like a fly fishermans suicide note.

Ok, dude, so you can't catch any fish.

That is NO reason to wade into the au sable without a staff!

Shit, let me help you catch a fish so this doesn't end badly.

Go to a gas station or a hardware store in a fishing town.

Buy "creepy crawlers.". That's the best way for you to end this hex.

And retire that fly rod of yours.

Glad I could be of assistance.

DUDE,

You got skunked on the AUSABLE? Honestly man, you should be ashamed. WICKED ashamed, and im not even kidding...In the 7 miles of NO KILL, the state puts in 25,000 TROUT, the county comes back in and stockes another 5-9 THOUSANDS 2-4 year old browns and bows.... That river holds more fish than a hatchery...And I hate to tell you, those spots you fished are absolutely LOADED with fish... I fished it the last 2 weeks in a row.... SOME HOGS in there too...

Not to piss on your fire even more, but when you fished itt he water flows were the best they were ALL SEASON SO FAR... hell, I caught DOZENS of fish in 4,500cfs 2.5 weeks ago!!!!!

Shit man....IM not saying im a great fly fisherman by any means, im just saying a blind fucking squirell could catch a fish in that river....
