MACFLY
Too many streams too little time
Headed up to the poconos yesterday to do some fishing and check out some property. Blue bird day so started nymphing my way down a nice run. Picked up a stockie rainbow on bhpt and lost a nice brown a few casts later on the same fly. Several kids decided it was too hot for early May and started swimming just code stream of where I was headed (dam kid so) took a break to look at some stream side property in canadensis along 447. The stream here is pretty shallow and suffers from some banks side degradation. Could be nice spot but a little to pricy for the amount of stream it included.
Grabbed a quick bit and headed downstream to a new location in hopes of hitting a nice sponnerfall. Around 6pm a good flush of caddis came off where I was nymphing and I managed 2 more rainbows before I switched over for the spinner fall. Size 14 & 16 spinners were on the water in decent numbers and a good dozen or so fish were working. I managed 2 more wild Browns and lost a couple as well. I probably could have waited and just went up at 5:30. Water temp hit 65 degrees but once the sun dropped it was notably cooler. Stream temp when I left was 60 degrees. Of course we need rain as all the other streams need. Beautiful night once the sun went down. Surprised no other fly fisherman around for the evening in that section of the stream.
