Colton Fly Rods?

jlajoie

Can I commute to Missoula from here?
Anyone know who is making these? looks like they come from Dingmans Ferry, PA. Thanks!

There appears to be some debate about the country of origin of both Colton rods and reels.
I have a 9' 5wt, and sold an 8.5' 4wt Colton. I do not have any of his reels. I was never able to find a sticky or anything, but i suspect from what i've seen on the internet (so it must be true!) and price these are made in China.

If you email and ask him let me know what he says.

They look surprisingly like the "Tech2" series from Wildwater Flyfishing. I have one of their 7wts.

I was about to buy a 2 and 3wt from him, but he wouldn't honor a price that he gave me 2months and 5days earlier (I really can't complain; it was 2 months between the purchase of the first 2 rods and the attempt to buy a third and fouth. I ended up w/ a used Scott G2. It's all good.)

His best deals go out on ebay. Prices there significantly less than his website.

I'm in Warren County. If you'd like to cast my 5wt it'll cost you a coffee. I can pull an old email and see what (if any) production changes there were. I believe there is little difference in his latest release.

Thanks mbwmn, Saw one of the three weights on ebay, and it looked alright, better than an Albright, for sure. I'll ask him and see what i can find out...

Hey Jay,

I have had a few folks fish with these rods in the past few years. They seem to be a branded middle of the road import rod. Nothing to wet your pants over, but a serviceable rod for most applications.

Thanks James. Need an acceptable 3 wt. that won't come close to breaking the bank, so I went ahead and ordered one. Should be nice for those overgrown streams in Brooklyn....
:)

Jay, let us know how the 3wt is. The 6' 2wt is intriguing. I also saw an 8'6" 4wt for just $100, which I could justify purchasing since I only have a 7' 4wt, an 8' 4wt, a moderate 9' 4wt, and a medium-fast 9' 4wt, no 8'6" in my quiver! She would understand.
