The recently release DVD (and Blue-Ray) has Chris demonstrating how best to fish the Great Smoky Mountains National Park for native Brook, Brown, and Rainbow Trout.

I was fortunate to receive a pre-release copy from the production company (I actually saw it before Chris did) and have to say without a doubt he did an outstanding job covering all aspects of fishing in the park.

Hell, I go down to the Smokies every year, maybe you might be able to come along, you won't soon forget those streams thats for sure.

I always love the pics you post from the smokies, my dumb ass never realized it was a world class trout fishery until I read your posts. I won't get there for a while, but Chris' DVD should have a better link via NEFF for those interested, i always enjoy his posts and spin on all things not just fishing.

I had fun making the video with James. I had just planned on doing some fishing with James, but he had more ambitious ideas of my time spent out there in the Smoky Mountains. He tells me I fished during a tough time period, but we still managed to do well. I guess the fish wanted to perform on camera.

Thanks again Dennis! I can't wait to get back and head to the Smokys. Going to try and catch a 20' + brown that I know is lurking around some of those deep holes.

I used to be a whitewater canoeist when I was at NC State and always made sure to put in some fishing when canoeing in the Smokies. The mountain streams are not generally large trout water and are filled with small to medium wild brookies and rainbows. However, every so often there is a giant brown in one of the better pools that feeds on those little guys. I got a gorgeous 22" brown from the Oconoluftee R up from Smokemont Campground one day when I was getting 7" to 9" bows most of the time where the stream was not that much bigger than lower van campens Bk.

However, if you fish the lower end of the trout rivers near the smallie/trout boundary those Southern streams with a long growing season can produce a fair amount of big fish. The tailwaters hold some hefty fish too.

Geez jumpin' jehosafats...

Who woulda thunk it possible so far south...

Otsego County, NY, maybe...

Sorry..I meant 20"

I know there are some slobs living in the Watauga and Holston. It is my goal to get at least one 20" brown before the spawning season out in Western NC. Fishing for them while they're spawning is cheating. Also going to try to hit the run of lake run rainbows that run into Big Snowbird in late October and November when they get a good push of water coming through there.
