Charlotte North Carolina fishing?

I'm heading down to Charlotte after Christmas to spend a few days at the gf's new home away from home. I called a shop near there and they said the nearest trout fishing is 2 hours away. I'm not looking to make trip out of it I just want to wet a line for a few hours with the chance that something might tug on it. They have a lake nearby that says it has stripers, there's seems to be a few decent sized lakes.

Anyone ever fish near there or have any directions I can look in? Thanks a bunch

I spent a week in Charlotte on business 12 years ago, didn't do any fishing, but the locals talked up Lake Norman. i can also say that if you are a single guy, there seemed to be an abundance of attractive friendly talent in the local watering holes at night. so, don't forget your rod!!

you could check out the middle saluda river in jones gap state park. i was in the charlotte / greenville area this past summer for a wedding and thought about getting there. would be about a two hour drive, though. i've heard good stuff about that place.

the chattooga river, which divides SC & GA, looks unbelievable. i had planned to do my friend's bachelor party in the wilderness, as the river has a .25 mile wilderness buffer on either side. the movie deliverance was filmed on this river. i made my friend's wife promise to let her husband get out fishing with me on that river one of these years. might be a four hour trip from charlotte, but i think it would be worth every mile.

I live in Charlotte, and fish most every weekend. A couple of areas that are within a 2 hour drive are as follows:

Mitchell River - Dobson, NC - 5 minutes off the interstate - DH

Wilsons Creek - above Morganton - about 1.5 hours from Charlotte - good place to check out - top section is very nice with the bottom section used by kayakers. In this vicinity, there are also a number of native streams which are really nice to check out -

Stone Mountatin State Park - about 1.75 hours north of Charlotte - lots of stream that flow through the park, mostly DH with a few native trickles

Davidson River - Brevard, NC maybe 2.25 hours away - this river needs no description - here there is also Avery Creek and Looking Glass - Davidson river is mostly midge fishing, as you probably know
