Set out on my maiden voyage with my new, (to me), popup camper, for Roscoe on Wed 5/26, destination Twin Islands Campground. Got settled in and had camp set up by 3pm.
I decided to hit the stream for the rest of the evening, and did very well with a March Brown dry size 16 with an emerger off the bend.
Wed night it proceeded to down pour for several hours, pretty much all night, I have to admit I was very proud of myself as my fire roared throughout the night!!!
Thur morning I awoke to a chocolate Beaverkill, and decided to head up to the West Branch. Fished the C&R in Deposit and didn't do very well, actually I did terrible!! Being my first time I guess I shouldn't expect much, but then again I didn't see anyone else catching anything either.
After a nice learning experience on the W Branch, I decided to head back to camp and have a nice steak dinner with creamed spinach, and hopefully catch a nice evening hatch from my camp site.
I arrived to find the stream had dropped considerably and had cleared up nicely. The Hatch that night was amazing, though I have nothing to compare it too. The sky was filled with several types of bugs, sorry I can't name them but it was amazing, there were some green drakes also, cool bug! and what I think were large sulphers, plus a darker smaller bug with gray wings kind of marroon body. The fly rod was batting them out of the air with each cast. Caught at least 9 or 10 fish that night, the best I have ever done in my 3 years of fishing.
Friday morning I went out early and proceeded to land about 10 more on an emerger, they were hitting it on the swing very hard.
Great trip can't wait to get back there! Sorry I didn't look any of you guys up while I was there, but you know how it goes.
I did have one question, where is a good spot to have a beer and watch a Yankee game after a night of fishing? I was hoping to find a nice fishermans type pub.
Instead I just hung at my site and stoked the fire.
Thanks for all your earlier advice on flies!
