Looking to get a waterproof camera case. Dropped my non-waterproof case this past weekend, good thing the camera was in the other hand. On the same outing, a pontooner went to take a photo of his buddy (who was also pontooning) of a nice brown he just caught when he realized his camera was soaked (it was dangling off the edge of his pontoon apparently). Upon catching up with us in Lordville, he told me that it was a nice digitial camera that he paid good money for.

Anywho, I was looking at something relatively inexpensive, like a Pelican case. Does anyone have any other they use? I'd prefer a softcase with a watertight zipper. For the time being I just want one for my point & shoot. I'll get one for my SLR at a later time.

Forget the case. Pentax Optio WP is waterproof to 10 ft. I have taken some nice pics and video with it underwater. It also has a great macro setting for da bugs. Metal case is great. I have dropped mine 50 times and it is still perfect.

Can you post a few underwater pics or a few links to some pics/vids that you've taken underwater? I'd like to get a general idea of the quality.

Dennis,

I would love to. The problem is they are all under my copyright and part of a project I am working on. Sorry, I cant. To give you an idea of how good they are, I am showing some Bug pics at the Mill Art Gallery in Lafayette NJ. They are printed archival, 11"x17" from my older 5 mega pixel model. Shot w/the macro and almost no Photoshop they turned out perfect. The Quicktime video is ok for web stuff.

so? take some new non-copyrighted images that arent part of the project. You should be out often enough to get a shot :) ... just no shots of you in the shower... thx :D

Sorry McA, I'm a Canon fanatic. Besides I just got my the point & shoot a few months ago (S80 model - 8MP - with full manual control) so I'm not looking to get another. I really would like to see some photos with your Pentax though.

Hey Ansel :foto:, in case you haven't heard... all photos are under someones copyright! If you're that concerned with someone stealing your precious photos, put a watermark on them. We're not asking you for a prize winner here, just a sample. Stick the thing in the river and snap a shot!

As far as how good the photo's are... I'm sure you and others may find your work to be superb, but they're only as good as the opinions of the people judging them.

How to make any camera work underwater:

Fill bucket with water.

Place camea in Ziplock bag.

Slowly submerge bottom of bag into water, when all the air has been squeezed out by water pressure seal the bag leaving as little air as possible in the bag.

If you want insurance double bag it the same way.

This works great with the disposable 35 mms, never had the guts to try it with my digitals. In the boat I use whitewater style wet bags to stow all my gear and ziplocks just to keep the camera dry.

FYI I have Pelican cases for optics, guns, etc. and they are all top quality including airtight seals with pressure release/equalization valves. Bulletproof and very rugged.

Simms makes a camera bag.
Also found this one.

Only problem is that they aren't really designed to be submerged.

What I really want is a small pouch that has a TIZIP so that I can attach it to my wading belt for quick access. This way I won't have to worry about taking a spill or wading in waist deep water. I could always get the Lowe Pro DryZone backpack, but I'm looking to travel light.

For now, I'm thinking of getting the Pelican. Its only $13.
