This may be my first serious thing posted on this forum....
Can anyone lead me in good direction for a camera to take pictures of flies, fish and scenery to post pictures. I am looking for something not too expensive that I can use solely for this purpose, so I too can have my balls busted by some of the members here. I cannot focus on to the flies with the camera I have, and am basically computer illiterate, so photo shop and fixing things on the computer after taking the shot is not an option. Thanks in advance for your help.

Dennis is the guy to talk to about this. He owns this site and he checks all posts hourly. I would recommend a digital SLR. I would show you some of my pics but I cant post them because i would have to resize them and I don't know how to do it:)

I just picked up a Canon SX40hs for my daughter and the quality is exceptional. Do you need something waterproof? If so, this wont be the model you're looking for. This is an amerature DSLR.

I can assure you that for the rest of the stuff you're doing, this camera will be terrific. Now whatever you decide, don't go posting pictures of yourself bearhugging fish like GB.

For Point & Shoot you cant beat Olympus, rugged, good glass, great JPEG engines and some are all weather cameras. Make sure it has a macro mode for extreme close-ups. For low light shooting Sony has excellent point&shoot units. My DSLR gear is all Olympus and it has never failed me. But I do keep a Sony in my vest for fish pics.

Thanks, like I said, I really don't know wtf I'm looking for in a camera, except that I can photograph a fly in focus, so thanks for the point that I need something with a macro mode. Thanks for the help.

Like I said before, you are funny too.

Really, I'm having a belly laugh.....

I wanted something I can take with me when I fly fish. The Canon s95/s100 are the lightest ones out there, but I ended up getting an Olympus XZ-1. It's a little heavier, but it has a very fast lens.

Sounds like your looking for a point and shoot, correct? I'm also looking for a new point and shoot, preferably waterproof (Don't feel like trashing my DSLR or lugging it around). The Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS3 has been rising to the top of most group tests (check dpreviews.com).

DC, whats your choice for a good waterproof point and shoot?

My buddy has the that very panasonic and it takes great pics.

i use a older pentax optio w30 for my fly photography and will say that a macro function is nice but not always necessary as long as your camera has manual focus. also, dont get all caught up in the more megapixels the better nonsense.

good luck in your search

I have two Olympus Stylus similar to these http://www.amazon.com/Olympus-Stylu...1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1327606323&sr=1-1
one is a couple years older than the other, and they have been great. Decent pictures and pretty much bulletproof. Our little kids use them whenever they want and they are still going strong without a hiccup. Dropped, abused, dunked and neither are worse for wear. They are a little heavy but that's because they are made to be knocked around. Even kept taking pictures camping last weekend down to about 10 degrees or so.

Was the picture in your avatar taken after or before it was dropped and/or abused?
