The Flatbrook is hopefully on its way to having a 4 mile catch and release, artificial lures only section where the current fly only section is. The brook has a better holding capacity and more wild trout (brookies and browns) than most people think. As a 12 month C&R we should get some great Spring and Fall fishing with a higher number of wilds and holdovers after a few years, similar to the improved fishing on the KLG (which also prosposed as C&R for 2014). If you like small to mid sized trout streams managed for C&R, the Flatbrook will be worth your time and $$. I stay away from it during the dead of Summer since some of the water may go into the low 70's during hottest part of the the day, but it has some great hatches and should be a great attraction to tri-State anglers.
Some of you like CMM are not too far from the Flatbrook, and those of us pushing for the regulation changes could sure use some support from NY and PA anglers when the call for public comment comes - which either I or Rusty Spinner will let you know when it happens. This is a bold move by the NJ Division of Fish and Wildlife because of pressure from the put and take crowd, and it will take the vote of the NJ Fish and Game Council to add it to the code. I have been purchasing fishing licenses for not just NJ, but for PA and NY for almost 40 years and have enjoyed and supported the different waters that each State offers. As a very small State, NJ has limited trout resources, but what we do have we take very seriously and work hard for. When the call comes I hope that many of the folks from neighboring States will help us (and hopefully themselves) out by having another quality C&R stream in the region.
