Worst fly fishing purchase

WBDluver

Official NEFF pot stirrer
What is the worst piece of fly fishing gear you ever purchased?

Ill start. Worst purchase i made was over the net were Simms pro guide wader pants. They are nothing more than over priced sweat pants, said they were for cold weather fishing, and they were right. If you want to be cold wear them

But seriously, Orvis wonderline. Worst casting line + started cracking in like 2 weeks.

The ketchum release was the most useless. A pair of first generation no felt llbean wading shoes was the worst overall. Incredibly stiff they never broke in and the bottoms were absolutely useless.

Agree with JC on the wonder line they did crack with in weeks unbelievable for such a praised fly line..Second worst purchase a St Croix rain fly rod worst excuse for a fly rod that I have ever seen . When you cast it felt like you had zero control over what the rod was doing because of the but, mid and tip each going their own direction..

Agree with MACFLY on the Ketchum Release. Thought it would be safer for my fingers when fishing droppers, but I could never get the hang of using that thing.

Also, a TFO 6ft 2wt rod. Liked it when I cast it in a parking lot before purchasing, but it just felt like fishing with a toothpick on a stream.

My worst purchase has got to be my Battenkill Large Arbor II.. Took a shit after only a year of use.

I figured you would have said the net you recently bought with the dildo handle. I guess you must really love it. I wonder what GB would say, because I don't think he ever purchased anything. My worst purchase was Orvis Tailwater waders, but i did return them a year later and received full credit. Nice thread.

I have never made a bad purchase, because I am far superior when compared to the rest of you boobs..........
All kiding aside.....
Probably my G. Loomis pro 4x 5wt....not that it is all that bad, but I prefer the winston, or the bamboo.......
Boy, that makes me sound like an elitist bastard......:crap:

You're a riot! Just spit my drink out so you owe me.

My worse piece of equipment was probably an old Sage 3300. This has to be the worse reel ever made.

Gimicks?? Ketchum release was a retarded product but I think Andy B was using this thing and liked it.

How about the Petit Jean $48.66 binder clips?

When these do the same exact thing for $5.00

Ok, so they're not as pretty as the Petit Jean ones but you can a dozen or more of these babies in different shapes and sizes for under 10 bux.

I'm with TT on this one. My Orvis Tailwater XT bootfoot waders. The first pair I purchased started to leak after a few outings. They replaced them with another pair. I put them on for a nice walking day in the Douglaston in early November. Halfway through the day I looked down at my sloppy feeling foot and noticed the felt was coming unglued from the bottom of the boot! The waders were nice in concept, horrible quality. Orvis is good about backing there bad waders and did issue me a full refund on an Orvis gift card. I went to Whitakers who accepted the card (after calling Orvis to see if they could when I told them that is the only way I will buy new waders from them), I bought my first pair of Simms waders and have not looked back since.

Another purchase I thought was a bad one was my first spey rod, a Beulah 12'6 7/8 weight. Now that I actually know how to properly use a spey rod, I realize that the shop sold me the head for it was about 80 grains too light and the rod was not properly loading. I now wish I had not sold the rod because I have since cast one properly lined and it is sweet! So I guess I could chalk that one up as saying it was the worst decision I have made to sell a nice piece of equipment. Sellers remorse.

An Orvis Madison "Nymph" rod (8' - 4wt, cane).
Action like a wet noodle.
You could cast better, and manipulate line better, with your bare hands.

Orvis discontinued this model long ago.

One of those flip down magnifiers that pins to your hat brim. Too small and doesn't come down far enough. Worst $12.95 I ever spent. Dollar store cheaters in 3x magnification work much better and at a few dollars are a disposable. When I drop them in the river I can wave them bye, bye and not shed a tear.

Ohh I almost forgot this. I may tie with my Simms Wading pants. It the Neoprene wading Jacket. The thing leaked, I never kept me warm like the neoprene waders did. I still have it hanging up in the garage. Yours for the asking.

Had to be when I wandered just east of the college to a large pond on the Doral golf course. HORRIBLE fly fishing...

The post is about the worst fly fishing product. You must be under the influence of fracking water in your well, and its affecting your comprehensive skills.

my worst purchase would be a dynaking indexer vise.the problem i had with this vise was with smaller hooks. i gave my old vise to a friend so now i am back with renzetti.

OOOOHhhhh....
I thought this thread was about the "worst fly fishing IN Purchase"... Ny that is...

My "comprehensive" skills? YOU have a better chance of being affected by Frack water in PA... NO fracking in NY, YET... maybe you didn't "comprehensivize" that through these years and years it's been discussed here... :)

Future fanatic....resurfacing in a situation I would expect, a hot political topic in your state of residence. Well done, you continue to be a predictable creature of habit.

Stay focused boys.......

Alright, another bad purchase I made was buying a used pair of Cabelas bootfoot waders with size 14 boots. They were the dryplus version and the boots were the most uncomfortable things I have ever worn. They were also size 14 and I wear 12, so they were too large, and the waders were xxl when I thought they were xl, when I really wear large long. First year purchase, only spent $40. They did come in handy however when when of our portly pals blew out the butt seam of his cabela waders on the Ausable, so I guess it was money well spent as he was able to fish for 2 more days.

MY first post here was about FISHING... did you MISS that?
Who brought up the "political topic"?
Seems some people can't help themselves... anything to say to them?

And look how predictable YOU are... analyzing MY posts(not well, of course...)

My worst purchase (Beside buying into GB’s Fly swap) Is Scientific Anglers Air Cel Floating Fly Line, 6 weight WF . Without a doubt the worst line I ever had. It remembers every coil. That piece of crap will not load the rod at all. I think a kite string is better. I gave to my brother. I laugh at him when he uses it; he looks like an idiot trying to cast it. He tries to blame the line, but I tell him that it is him and he needs to learn to cast. ( don’t anyone tell him)

Speaking of your brother...where has he been???

Incredibly stiff they never broke in and the bottoms were absolutely useless.

This guy loves stiff things....

My worst purchase - Cabela's Alaskan Guide Wading Staff on clearance at $19.99 from $50. First day with the staff - wading the Salmon River last Spring to look down and only see the tether connected to my wading belt. The staff broke off from the elastic tether after a couple hours of use. Complete piece of crap. Didn't even bother contacting Cabela's as their customer service and products, from my experience, are complete crap.
