Whatchya buyin at the show?

I'm gonna be looking for a JC cape to start tyin up some Spey flys, maybe some BEP or heron (can u buy that) if it's around. I don't even know what to look for in a JC cape so if anyone can offer up some guidence I'm all ears.

Ill also grab whatever materials catch my eye along the way. No big purchases planned though.

When it comes to J.C. a few things you need to consider is what size flies do you plan to use the cape for. That way you will be able gauge if the eyes are going to be big enough or small enough for what you plan to tie. You also want uniform nails so that you can have matching pairs. Eye color is subjective I like hot or brighter colored nails. Some like tamer more washed out J.C. eyes. When I spoke to Topher Brown about J.C. he mentioned that he liked brighter nails for dirty water or brighter days and more subdued colored nails for clearer water.

If you are tying fishing flies split nails will less of an issue and will allow you to get a cape for less money. Some people fix the splits nails using fleximent. In my honest opinion I would not buy a cape at the show. I would buy a cape on ebay for half the money and of better quality. See if you can find some listings of capes from Estonia.

Think im skipping it this year. I am in the market for a new pair of waders but I dont know the show is the place to score a pair for a decent price. I've had a pair of cabelas waders for 6 years so I think I've earned some new Simms. Anyone have any suggestions on where to buy?

I scored a pair of G3's there last year for two-fitty. One of the vendors had a stack of them, me and couple of other guys picking through to find our size. The only real bargain I ever found there. You never know, go early.
