Upper LV Today

FIN-ITE 34

Well-known member
Fished another upper LV stream today. The fog hung in till almost noon and the temperature never really warmed up to what I had expected. The afternoon brought some olives floating on the water but I did not see any rising fish.
Fishing was fair to good with more than a handful brought to net. I had one really pretty brown about sixteen inches and another good brown with a notable fungus growth on its tail.
As far as the hot nymph today, there was none. I had to do a lot of changing of flies because it seemed like one and done for each fish I caught.

Nice variety of different-looking fish. It's fascinating to see how trout of the same species from the same stream can look so different, ranging from drab to very colorful. Some of those fish have red spots with halos, and some have attractive buttery yellow bellies.

What I'll call the "dark morph" like in pic 2 is the coloring that is most interesting to me. They always seem way out of whack when compared to the other fish. Curious that the only other fish that I have caught (upper SB) a few years ago that had the same fungal growth on much of its body was a similar looking dark morph brown.

Was that fungal growth in the shape of a hand?
Now, I hear......... some people say, that handling a fish improperly will make a hand print where unhealthy fungus grows......
