Tying a Damselfly Dry

Matt Grobert

6/0 Olive Danville
After the video "Damsels in Distress" came out last week, we were asked to do a tying video of how to tie a Damselfly dry. Here's the video we made with Tightline Productions.

LIGHT olive! Wow, a slight move away from the always plain olive.

Matt, have you ever had the occasion to use that pattern around here for trout?

Best classic tying vids. If you like to rock out and have a laugh watching someone else get stabbed with a hook in the vice, watch Brain Wise tie the big ugly stuff.

Not here in the East, but out in Yellowstone Country I've caught fish on them - I tie them with blue deer body hair and black thread, and use black antron yarn for the wing case.

Wait until you see the thread I use in the next fly tying video.....I nearly had a stroke!:crap: It'll be up next week.

I hit a damsel fly fall on Spring Creek once. They were hatching from the ponds along the trail up from Fisherman's Paradise and then falling into the creek. For such large bugs, the trout weren't moving at all to take them and your cast had to be right on their noses. Of course didn't have a damsel pattern, but one of those large March Brown spinners tied with Coq de Leon hackle trimmed underneath did the trick. Stole a trout in front of Petee R, but that's the way I roll.

Shouldn't you be focused on keeping these out of our Big Macs? After all, it's after 5 and the drive through is packed already.

I am on vacation, I returned from the slopes two hours ago after putting on a clinic on proper skiing technique. I will be unavailable for an hour more while I sign autographs.

Grobert is manning the counter...I do not know how he had time to do this video while covering all my shifts...please refer all complaints and questions to his personal NEFF inbox.....Thank you....

P.S. I have already correct the Grobert several times as well. It is not a drive-up, nor a drive through, as you have stated....it is a drive-thru...look at the sign next time!!!

When your done fooling around at Smugs, I'll take you down the Front 4 on Mansfield, maybe some of the back country stuff also. Are you out of rear-entry boots, and have you graduated to using poles yet?

Lange RS 130, just don't try to take them on or off when they're cold. I propose a Chinese Downhill.

And they stock Sterling pond with brookies, some of them hold-over and get big.

There was a snowcat in there for a while also......why did you Stowe fuckers get so snooty...we can't ski over there anymore. ...I guess we can thank AIG.......

Screw Stowe - ski Mad River. Hands down the best mountain in Vermont. That and Glen Ellen. Yes, I'm dating myself, bite me.

Mad River is good only when there's snow, they don't make their own. This year has more or less sucked for them.

AIG sucks, and that new resort at Spruce is an atrocity. At least the big mountain has been off limits since its a state park. And the fishing is definitely better on the Stowe side. Many unknown to most options.

Rusty....Smuggler's Notch has the most diverse skiing on and off piste in the east...It has the only triple black diamond in the east as well.......You won't catch my ass on that rocky, cliff laden, mogul filled, ice beast of a trail......my knees and olderness make me sensible now...
But I am up for the Chinese downhill!!!!
