State of NJ Shut Down

Scott

Salmo salar Sebago finatic
Thanks to Gov. Corzine shutting down the state, all NJ state parks are closing until further notice.

I went to Round Valley this evening to get in a little night fishing - closed. I talked with the water authority guy there, and he said Spruce Run was closing too. So I drove over to Spruce Run, and while I never quite made it due to an automotive issue, I learned that was shut down too.

So from what I was told all state parks and facilities - including boat ramps - are closed until further notice. How Gov. Corzine thinks that not letting me fish and blocking me from activites that I have paid for will help our elected officials get a budget together is beyond me.

I didn't vote for him the first time, and I will certainly not vote for him now.

But I'll stop there - I don't want this to turn into a political thread - but how about some posts about what lake and river access points are open and which are closed?

I'm thinking about lakes like Swartswood, Cranberry, Aeroflex, Waywayanda etc. Aeroflex and Waywayanda are where they put the Landlocked salmon...

Also the river access areas such as the Millstone, D&R Canal state park, Bull's Island, etc.

All are state park operated ramps and state parks.

I can't imagine the state closing the Cranberry lake ramp & access, but who knows?

Don't forget that TCA's such as the KLG, Pequest, BFB, and Point Mountain are all state owned property.

I really have no idea to what extent state owned public access areas will be affected, and while I think it's not likely that places such as the KLG will be closed, I would not be surprised if it was.

WMAs (like KLG) are supposedly closed. However, they don't have gates and I don't know who would stop you.

I am sure nothing will stop people from driving down the road in KLG not even winter road closed signs or the fact that WMAs are closed.

At least this didn't happen during stocking season.
Wonder if there would have been someone on staff to feed the fish in the hatchery.

I wonder who's feeding the fish they have now, at Pequest & Hackettstown, and the Pheasants at Rockport... I assume (and hope) that is an "essential" job.

Oh, and the State Police do check fishing licenses if you are stopped while on Lake Hopatcong.

I don't understand why everyone blames Corzine for this mess. Here is a Governor that inherited a huge deficit and is trying to balance the budget rather than continue the usual financial nonsense of playing games with the numbers. I respect Corzine for taking an fairly unpopular stand to balance the state's books, rather than stick his head in the sand. And what is an extra 1% sales tax? You buy a $300 flyrod and you pay $21 in tax instead of $18! Its a small price to pay to get the state out of debt, and is preferrable to property or income tax increases.

Regarding WMA closures, I don't think anyone will bother you unless you enter an area that is gated or posted as closed.

I agree with the increase in sales tax. It doesn't bother me. I doubt it will have any effect on lowering my property taxes. Most of the property tax burden is from school taxes. I don't even have any kids.

I don't see why the citizens of this state need to suffer because a bunch of Democrats don't want to look bad in an election year by voting for a tax increase and then lose their jobs in the next election.
