Seeking suggestion on Tim Zietak

I should of read some of the posts before I ordered a quad blank from Tim Zietak as this guys seems like he possesses a very little professionalism. It has been 4months since I've ordered the blanks from Tim and I can't even get in touch with the guy at this point. Initially when I spoke to him for the first time, Tim told me it will take him no more than a month to make the blank so I ordered the blank based on our phone and email exchanges. But during the course of 4 months, Tim only gave me a handful of response via email as he never answers my call with numerous excuses after excuses, including how US postal service lost the rod...Currently, I can't even get any response from him. Not even a "it's in the mail" excuse. Without knowing what to do I've contacted the Pittsburgh Better Business Bureau and waiting to hear from them.

Does anyone knows how to deal with this kind of situation? Greatly appreciate your suggestions...

If you paid by credit card, try contacting that card company and let them know. They can sometimes get your $ back. Trashing him on this site can't hurt your odds either if he wants to stay in business :)

Thanks for your advice RS. Unfortunately, I paid with a check, not realizing a bamboo rod maker can also be shady. How naive of me....

Had you done a google search, you would have found that the only review that counts was the one located directly under the link to his own site.

Point him to this thread. You'll get a response.

The Better Business Bureau is kind of toothless, especially if he's not a member.

Depending on your relative locations, it may be unwieldy, but the appropriate Division of Consumer Affairs may be able to help.

A lawsuit is another option, but it could cost more than you have to gain. Usually the only winners are the lawyers.

Posting your complaint on this, and other, forums might get his attention, (we had one notable success here), but you risk being sued yourself. Even if you're exonerated, the defense could be more expensive, than the $ at stake. If you're willing to take the risk, stick to the truth, it's your best defense.

I recently went through a similar experience and ultimately had my mony refunded after 5 months. I basically had to threaten to sue him over 102 dollars. It had nothing to do with the money just the principle of it all. I would have followed through with it just so someone else doesn't have to experience the same thing. It's amazing how incompetent the post office is. It would appear they are incapable of delivering mail. My transaction went through PayPal so in the future try to conduct business that way as it offers some protection.

So I guess he won't be at the boo fest?

Good idea! Never dealt with a small outfit. Also, I was naive enough to think that such trade involves love for the sport and hard work which usually done by honest individual.

I went through enough lawsuits to prepare myself and willing to do so for the principal of it as MacFly mentioned. It is just disturbing the fact that all this unnecessary bickering over a bamboo rod...

Go get on the Clarks Classic Forum and post what happened. He'll listen.

NEFF helped me bring to light some problems I had with a certain DB company.

That really sucks, PM me, i will show you a few from my catologue of boo rods. I will also give you wiring instructions for a downpayment so we can get this going... sorry for your loss, we're not all like that.... In the meantime you should be filing suit in small claims court, trust me it works. Looking forward to your PM!!!

You may have to do your bashing on here. I just read up a bit and I think Clarks doesn't want to be a venue where people cn bash on others.

I remember asking about ballan reels and a couple things were said off color and they pulled the thread. I would take out an add in his local paper letting everyone know he stiffed you.

Hi All,

I am happy to inform you all that after following some of your suggestions, Mr. Zietak responded back to me just now with his intended action. All I can say to you gentlemen is "Wow, your forum rocks!!!" I will inform you guys with the progress.

Sincerely yours,

Hopefully everything works out.

I was actually looking to add one of his rods to my collection. Not sure about that now. Might just get a Carlin quad.

When I inquired about the Carlin quad, the waiting period was about 6 months. That's why I went with Mr. Zietak. I think he can actually increase his client base significantly only if he can run his outfit more professionally as there are a great demand for quad rod...

Finally received the blank. Not straight, ferrules don't fit... Oh well. Lesson learned...I'm not going to chase Tim as I completely lost interest in him.

His rods are common on the secondary market at reasonable prices, they look beautiful but a thread like this makes you wonder. Where there's smoke there's got to be fire at some point.

You hear terms "you get what you pay". Foolish of me to expect something decent for $400 but at least ferrules should fit no?

I would do exactly what you've suggested except that the whole new process will take another 3 months...

Still, hold this clown accountable.

You wanna sell bamboo rods, do them right.

I have a few cane rods and I have no problem waiting but let it be worth the wait.

You should get a good blank for $400, not something thats not straight. That is around the same price other makers charge for their blanks so its not foolish to expect something decent for that price as a matter of fact you should expect a nice blank to finish out. Ferrule fit can be tweak and often has to be after the ferrules are initially fit, especially for rods built in more arid climate and shipped into the humid northeast. The fit tends to change.

I would send it back and ask for a refund. (He should pay the shipping and insurance also). There are other makers whose blanks are in the same price range that would produce a better product. Sometimes the wait might seem too long but it is worth it when a superior product arrives.
