My first Bamboo Rod!

Well, I broke down and did it. I've got a 5 month wait ahead of me, but I went and ordered a Bamboo rod from Tim Zietak out of Pittsburgh, PA.

Out of the dozen or more bamboo rods I've tried from various bamboo rod makers, this was by far the one I enjoyed casting and looking at the most. It's a Quad bamboo rod, 7' 6" 2pc.

I can't wait to cast this baby.

Here is a review of the rod maker. This is not Tim's site. REVIEW

There is a rotating banner on the top of this site. If you'de like to check out Tim's site, please click the banner when you see it.

Congratulations, tim is a well respected builder. Actually I bought my Art Weiler rod from him. Would love to cast your quad when you get it. Andre

I had already seen that banner up there and was looking at it and wondering......lol. I have three bamboo rods so far, (we have four). An old Cortland 444 Limited Impregnated rod which i have never fished with yet. I just bought it on a whim for $200 a few years ago down at the CFFC&M on Summerfest day a few years back. It does have a nice feel though. I've cast it, just not fished with it. I also have an Uslan, (famous old rod builder of 5 sided rods) which i like a lot. Got it at the CFFC&M's annual diner one year for $365, listed in a catalog (Carmine Lasella donation) as worth about $750. I use it on the Connaquot River each year, and i've used it in Montana on small streams. It's very accurate. I keep it in my fishing truck year a round, always ready to go. I have a Islander Reel stuck on that rod and it's been stuck on there for about .....well over two years now. LOL. Anyway, that's another show. My wife was fortunate enough to meet a Japanese bamboo rod builder who gave us one of his rods each, and they are very nice. They are made from Japanese bamboo, not Tonkin cane. They are two piece, 7 and a half ft. Mine is a four wt. and hers is a five wt. They are pretty fast actually. The male portion of the ferruels are also bamboo. You gotta see it to believe it. Very beautiful rods, with a flat finish. The grips are somewhat small, but no biggie. He gave them to us, for us AND others to try, so if any of you guys would like to fish with it, "come on down." Be careful Dennis, (although it might already BE to late, lol) mark..............

No problem, Andre... By the way, that 5wt bamboo rod was a nice rod too. The only thing I didn't like was the grip, other than that, nice casting rod.

Mark, possibly this spring I'll make it over to your place to try one of those rods out. My father has already warned me about going to Bamboo. He loves the stuff and is very knowledgeable with it...

I had the good fortune to cast willow's Uslan last spring.
Its a real pleasure to cast.

great to see you, willow!

Dennis,
Welcome to the bamboo club. As mentioned above they are addictive.

Tight lines,

Pete

Maybe I should have held off? I do enjoy casting Graphite though, and like a fast rod. I don't think the addiction will set in with me, but you never know! :)

Dennis, you may already be addicted and just don't realize it yet? LOL. If you do find a rather fast cane rod you really like, it'll be over..........lol. Check out a builder named Bob Nunley, he makes a gem of a rod. And DO make sure you give a try to the Ron Kusse rods that slic will have with him at the Gathering, especially if he has a Quad with him. mark

Dennis

If your interested in a second cane rod:D my neighbor told me last night that he wants to sell one of his Gary Howell's, I think it is 7 1/2 #4. If interested, I can give you his phone number. He burped out $3,000 but my guess is he would go 20% less.

Mike

Ooooph ahhh... Too rich for my blood!!! Thanks for keeping me in mind though. I'll use that 20% for a deposit on a new car!!! :)

Oh great.Another Bamboo head like Andre. At the show on Saturday Andre was stalking the Bamboo booth right next to the drf both most of the morning,he must have stopped there and passed it a dozen times > Hmmm should I buy another one?
I guess you will be driving to the letort instead of the catskills now?

Never fished a boo rod. Some time I'll give it a whirl. I'm pretty happy my rocket launching GLXs. Congrats Dennis.

dcabarle, I also have a new addition. I purchased a Bamboo 6'6" 4wt., "A. Napolitano" fly rod. This little rod is crisp and will make a nice little dry fly stick. Mr Napolitano is a wonderful person to deal with. You can check out his site at http://napolitanoflyrods.home.att.net My new little 6'6" should be delivered within a couple of weeks. I'll keep everyone posted.

I don't mind promoting the Gathering, but please do so within the gathering thread. This thread is Bamboo. The welcome aboard part was fine. Sorry to knit pick, but there's a 123 page Gathering thread already. No need to mention the Gathering within every post within every thread. I know this is an exageration, but you get the idea.

Thanks

WB, welcome aboard! I hope you'll enjoy using your new rod. Where do you plan on fishing with it? I hope to turn mine into a Beaverkill rod.

Dennis,

I fish the Beaverkill, Fishing Creek, Willowemoc, Delaware, Lehigh, Kenlockwood, South Branch, etc. In fact, while fishing the Beverkill I met Mr Napolitano and fell in love with his Bamboo rods.

Thank You all for the warm welcome to your forum.
