Salmon River season is approaching

flyI4

Fishizzle, I use worms but I'm looking to upgrade!
At the end of the summer most trout fisherman are frustrated. Short lived and inconsistent hatches at dark-thirty along with sub-par water conditions on many streams, and hot days are not a fun thing to deal with. However- for those that have tried it, that subtle hint of fall in the air starts getting the juices flowing for steelhead season. If you like salmon you're a goon and this post is not meant for you. However, the steelhead season is about as fun as it gets starting in October when they are mixed in with the salmon and weather conditions are comfortable in the 50's-low 40's. I have planned my fall out strategically- agreeing to go to 3 weddings in a row during sepember to buy my time in October. I already have lodging booked for weekends of October 10/17th/and November 22nd. I'll be focusing on the DSR during October, and will starting spreading out in Late October/Early november when the steelhead begin to establish themselves well throughout the entire river. I also booked a trip wih guide Paul Conklin for November, which I've heard nothing but good things about. Never really had formal instruction up there and have learned by trial and error, so I am looking forward to getting some local knowledge from a guy that knows the river well from top to bottom. I know others have the itch on here - so whos going and when?

Goon season officially starts this weekend!

The salmon river shit show is getting old. I'm looking forward to hitting some less gooney water this season. Let's do it broskiii!!

Booked at Cannons every other weekend from Sept 20th on.

Sue is allowing me to park the boat their too.

The reason I have weekend pre-mid October, is some of my father's buddies can only make it then. So its nice to just go up, sit riverside, and watch the fucking circus.

Lets get it boys.

Screw the salmon, been there done that, gets old. With that being said, I will probably hit the DSR for a couple days in mid-September for shits, giggles and goons. Maybe a few Coho will be making an early run. Make sure you hit the DSR the 10/17 weekend. The steelhead fishing is the best I've ever experienced this time of year down there. I'll be arriving on 10/19 and fishing through the 22nd. If you want hot steelhead, that is the time and DSR is the place.......at least this year, next years plan they put out will make it tough on the wallet and difficult to actually gain access to the place.

Paul is an awesome guide and is a great Spey caster and instructor. Plus he has a pretty sexy boat.

I fished the SR this past Thursday and Friday. It wasn't crowded but VERY few fish were moving up.
