Pnock

FIN-ITE 34

Well-known member
Late Sunday afternoon I fished the upper Pnock with a 3wt. and a small handful of dry flies. I started off at the overpass with a size 14 chartreuse Humpy as there were absolutely no bugs over the water. I thought that I might raise a fish on this attractor which has been good to me on other small wild trout streams. After about 45 minutes and almost a half mile of stream, I had not even a looker to show for my endeavors. So I switched to a size 14 Grey Fox and continued upstream, casting to likely looking holding water. Well the Grey Fox made all the difference as I soon started getting some lookers and takers. The next 45 minutes produced four browns to hand and a couple more long releases.
I left the stream at about 7 pm and at that time there were still no bugs on the water except for the usual midges.

A few months ago I did very well. The river has been too high and dirty as of late, when things clear I'll be back out in the kayak.

Damn Humpy's. I have a box of them I use to create artificial hatches with. I toss them off the bridge by the handful then rush downstream before the flies get there. It's like chumming but with dry flies.
