NW Jersey Trout streams...

ChrisR

"Lets rip some lips!"
Hi guys. I just took a job with the NPS DELAWARE WATERGAP for the summer. My primary mission is to do some restoration carpentry on the Van Campen Barn and several other buildings in Millbrook.

It seems I am in trout waters.

Anybody care to elaborate on my options. I report and leave work from Bushkill PA. However I have the option of several egress routes to my residence in Florida NY. The Muske and Pegash are south of my area of work, any heads up, for the montaque, sussex, bushkill, dingmans, or milford areas, would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to PM me. Thanks in advance.

Lets see -- In NJ you Have VCB- Flatbrook -- Pequest and the Muskee isnt to far -- In PA -- You already mentioned the Bushkill -- you also have the Lehigh -- the Lackawaxen -- The Shohola -- and many more -- Hell even in NYS -- The Beverkill isnt to far

hope this helps

Peace
Dan

You also may wish to give the Delaware a shot, good smallie water close to where you will be working.

Right now all the trout streams in the Poconos and NW NJ are slightly high and fishing great. However, that may or may not last. If the summer is cool and wet the trout can go a while, if not it may be over by July 4. I would check the NJ DFGW and PA Boat Commision sites for trout streams - plenty of wild trout streams but people are sensitive of posting too many options on line.

The Delaware is a great smallie stream for warm weather.

Another option is all the ponds in the DWGNRA - get a map/use Google maps and explore. It is largemouth/pickerel/panfish water and some are better than others, but it is another option for experimenting.

I'm struggling to think if any of the streams/rivers in the NPS do NOT hold trout - I think they all do. PA, NY and NJ all have multiple options without leaving the Park. Surprised nobody mentioned the Neverskink, Clove Brook, Dunnfield, etc., etc. More water than you can fish all summer assuming the water temps are safe to fish this summer.

Good to hear NPS is fixing up some of the old buildings, one of the biggest complaints of the Tocks Island land takings is that so many historic structures have fallen into disrepair and have had to be bulldozed since they were not/are not being maintained.
