NJ stocking only Rainbow trout

I read that NJ was only stocking Rainbow trout this year and for the next few years. Will certain streams not be stocked since they are only stocking bows? or did all streams even ones containing wild and native fish get stocked with rainbows anyway? Will stocking only rainbows for the next few years impact the fisery at all?

thanks in advance

I think it is business as usual; the number of rainbows planned is the same as the total stocked for years. Plus, the rainbows were always stocked in places where wild brown trout were thick, like the South Branch above Califon, so I doubt there is any place stocked before that they wouldn't stock now.

Impacting the fishery is a different question. It will probably be a lot like last year when only rainbows were stocked. I think the rainbows do better in early season than the old NJ brookies did (although the stocked bows didn't bite well in the first couple of weeks of the season last year). I do think that the browns stocked late season rose to dries better and maybe held a little better over the summer, but the bows actually do well in the summer as well so maybe I have a bias towards the browns. Maybe the only difference will be variety of stocked trout, but one can always go for the wild browns and brooks.

As JeffK said, no changes to where and when streams will be stocked, it's just that it will be all bows. Will it affect the fishery? Yes, and in a positive way since few stocked bows reproduce and they are the most easily of the three to be caught by anglers as multiple creel surveys have demonstrated recently. We won't have quite as much competition from stocked fish versus our native and wild brookies or our wild browns.

Lighten up LU. At least he probably knows the difference between a drive-up and a drive-thru.

Rusty, I was thinking, stooped, soup, silly, sarcastic, some, south, Steve.......definitely NOT superior:)

and the place you pick-up your food is a drive -thru, the place you see a movie is a drive-in, and a bank has a drive-up...Now if Grobert would only stop talking long enough to understand that, all would be well...

TT. I look fantastic in my '70'sred velvet basketball shorts and white roller skates....bite it!!!

I guess I should change the name to ex snjchef. Sold the company 2 years ago now I consult to food service organizations. But I am getting the itch to open up something soon.
