Hi I just got an unexpected offer to go to Nine Mile Creek ether today or this Friday. I have never fished this creek before so can someone point me in the right detection in terms of what flies to use this time of year? Please reply quickly so I can start tying flies.

Thanks.

that river is loaded with trout..mostly stocked..but life could be worse..any nymph pattern will work..its a really nice small stream to fish ..there are other really nice streams in the area as well that are loaded with trout..dont expect to catch 20 in fish all day like the west branch but you will have fun..and as long as you are catching...you are learning..

Alright thanks pitbull, also do you mind telling me where the other streams in the area are I looked all over online and couldn't find anything.

Thanks

You're going to catch them till you're bored! There are wild and stocked rainbows, brookies and brown trout. Bring CRANEFLIES, small scuds, zebra midges and your favorite small nymphs. Go hammer them! Lots of people thought. Make sure to fish the ledge pool. You'll like it a lot.

It's a fly.. it's legal.

Had a good day at Nine Mile today. When I first got there at 9:00 am I walked right down past the first 150 yards of the stream because of all the bait fisherman lined up at the bank. Then I started fishing some holes with no luck. I continued doing this for about a mile down the stream seeing almost no trout let alone catching one. Kinda bummed about the lack of trout I walked all the way back to were all the bate fisherman were and started casting scuds into a small hole. On the third cast I hooked my first trout. I stayed in that hole for most of my day catching most of my trout there. About an hour after I left I started walking up stream and caught a few more. The trout were rising to something but I couldn't figure out what it was. What ever it was they were small enough so I couldn't see them from a short distance and there was not enough of them to find any. Dose any one have any idea of what they were? All together I caught around twelve small browns none over nine inches long, and one brook. I also lost one nicer brown that was probably around twelve inches long right before I left.

My first Nine Mile trout.

Thanks for all you guys's help on what fly's to bring never would have thought to bring scuds. Couldn't have done it with out you.

Also for anyone who has experience with this stream, do you know the reason for the lack of trout down stream? and do they ever catch any nicer fish out of this stream like around 14 inches or so, or mostly just small fish in this stream?

You would have to tell me what area you fished. I always fish way back in the weeds and do very well and there is never anyone around.

I grew up fishing nine mile and all the creeks in that area. I know of a very nice creek that people fish, but often ignore a certain section because of it's location. I have pulled out 18" browns on a regular basis and caught two very nice 18" lake run rainbows. It's only a 5 minute drive from nine mile. That's the only hint you will get out of me.

I fished a section Camillus. It was pretty close to mane street just past a bridge. The parking lot was right by what looked like a school and you could also see tennis courts and a play ground from were I fished. And about that other stream in the area would you tell me if it is on public land?

I use to live up there and fished that area a lot and the thing i loved is the lack of people. I certainly appreciate the lack of spot burning.

I know where you fished. Should have gone down some of the trails in the woods to the less fished areas.

Hi,

Great stream, used to fish it all the time.

When I lived in Syracuse, I once fished the stream on September 30th and never saw or caught a fish.

The next day, after the season was over, I helped the DEC shock and mark fish in the section I had just fished.

Inn about 200 yards of stream we shocked about 200 trout, which the DEC estimated was about half of the total population in that stretch.

So that was 2 fish per yard and I had not even seen one the day before!!

There were a few fish in the 17-19 inch range and I had never caught one over about 16 inches in all the years I had fished there.

The stream is a food factory and the fish grow quickly with good survival over the winter.

Jim
